Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Cobb.
Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in Georgia, I always loved being in front of the camera. Local news story? IM THERE. Newspaper reporters? ASK ME ANYTHING! As time went on, I faded out of wanting to be in front of the camera to behind the camera. I loved Polaroids as a child, I still have a Polaroid camera today! My family has always been the type “don’t get me in that picture. I don’t like pictures” so a vast majority of my childhood was lost because I accepted the answer “no” when I asked to take a picture. All that has changed now and when people see me coming they either get with the program or exit stage left because time is too valuable to always say “no” to pictures. It’s always I’m to this or I’m too that, when your gone people will miss you and want to see you regardless. So fast forward to today, I own my own photography studio in Metter, the small town I grew up in! I’m sole proprietor and owner and I did it all by myself.
My husband did my floors and my stepdad helped me paint. But for the most part, there was no help and that’s ok because sometimes all you need is encouragement! Which I had from many people in my small community! When you’re a trade in a smaller town there tends to be a couple of people doing the same thing. I welcome it! There are some local photographers that has drug my name in the dirt and just haven’t been very kind. The ones that have been there for me and taught me invaluable lessons I’ll truly never forget. In a world where “everybody’s a photographer” I’m so happy and grateful that the few people in my circle have rallied for me and always push me to do better and go farther in my business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say smooth, it’s been the hardest journey I’ve ever taken. It’s also been the best decision I’ve made to invest in myself. So the struggle I can recall that was the hardest was accepting that just because they’re your friends DOES NOT mean that they are gonna support you. Maybe your style isn’t theirs and that’s OKAY! I’d rather be a couple of people’s shot of whiskey than everybody’s cup of tea! I’m different as a photographer! I’m moody, dark, eccentric and I know that’s not everybody’s vibe. I can honestly say that since becoming a business owner, I’ve lost a ton of friends. Or who I thought were my friends. I’m married, but I haven’t had kids yet. My husband and I both are small business owners and kids just aren’t in our future. YET. I hope one they we just get surprised, but until then our stores are our babies. They don’t tell you you lose friends when you aren’t on the same road. I have a few (like 4) friends that have stuck by my side, but for the most part, when I didn’t have kids I kind of got thrown to the side. I’m still accepting that. It’s hard, but every day it’s worth it because I’m betting on myself. That’s what the hardest part has been, just kind of losing people.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sublime Stills Photography?
Sublime Stills Photography is different in so many ways. I do boudoir that’s my favorite! Making women feel beautiful is my main goal! I also do maternity sessions for mothers-to-be, I’m located 15 minutes from a state park and those pictures turn out phenomenal. I do events as well, everything from weddings, birthday parties, corporate meetings everything! My brand is mostly just about relaxing and enjoying to session. If I had to categorize my brand, I would say I’m more of a lifestyle photographer. I work around your kids not wanting to be here. I make them laugh, smile, whatever it takes. I deal with the husbands that didn’t want to be here. My goal is to make sure everybody enjoys the session. Even the husbands! Haha
What matters most to you?
People being happy at the end of the day matters most to me. I want people to be happy with the end product every single time they use me. I love what I do and the small town I do it in. It means so much to me when I do a session and the person changes their profile picture of what we took or even leaves a review. It truly does so much for the brand when you leave a review or tell your friends.
