Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Lane.
Hi Christina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been a local educator and reading specialist in the Atlanta community for more than a decade. I owned an in-town preschool for many years in Edgewood called New Morning. In 2018 the property we rented was sold to condo developers. When my business transitioned so did my personal life. As part of a personal growth journey after divorce, I became certified in embodiment. Embodiment is a quick way to calm the nervous system. By connecting body, mind and emotions people can make very clear and personalized choices for themselves. When you have nervous system control you can take risks and set boundaries that were never possible for you before. I started working at GLOBE Academy and in the evenings I worked for a large organization coaching hundreds of single women in embodied living.
Last year I decided to take the leap into seeing my own embodiment clients and building a Literacy Program that teaches kids to become embodied communicators. Leaving a stable salary and benefits to build my own business was a complicated decision as a single mom. However, I had seen the ability my skills had to move women out of feeling completely stuck and lost into a place of freedom. I knew that if I worked hard and made the sacrifices necessary, I could blend my embodiment skills and my skills as a master educator into services that could help women and children create real change.
Today both of my businesses are growing and doing well. I see 3rd to 8th-grade students with the support of another master educator in my Literacy for Life program. We accept 12 students per semester. We have designed a method that is based on tons of experience and research. We are able to stretch beyond what most reading and writing tutoring offers into teaching children how to communicate in their authentic voice. We learn from real novels and meet in small groups online so the kids can make everything work even when they are traveling. Many of the kids that did the program last year saw tremendous success. I am really excited about the fall.
I have twelve active embodiment clients. Some are men! Most of my clients are working on a relationship or dating issue. However, embodiment stretches across their life. I spent all of last year creating a curriculum and had ten women test it. Our results were amazing. This fall I have just started selling the program, called Radiance, with 1-1 sessions.
I have had so many firsts this year from being on video on social media for the first time in my life to now rolling out an Embodiment YouTube Channel. It still sometimes blows me away that several thousand people are checking in on what I am doing. Occasionally I get some negative feedback, especially on my Medium.com articles. However, I can see how new ideas can be triggering. Sometimes negative comments are just a reflection that I caused someone to feel and think and that helps me get through them. Being online and staying authentic is a rare task. I am excited to develop that part of my voice more this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacles have all been my mindset. I had concerns that I would feel anxious not having a regular salary and that the ‘hustle’ of needing a constant influx of clients would feel scary. I’ve actually found though that I adjusted pretty quickly to that. I believe that solution-oriented alternative mental health options are in huge demand. Also finding a tutor with my experience and qualifications can be really hard. Especially one that will work with the age group I do. Kids in 3rd to 8th grade often get very little real reading and writing instruction. There is an expectation that they just know how to read when the reality is most kids need more support.
I was also terrified of sales and the potential I would have to run ads. I found that because I believe in my work so deeply it is doesn’t feel like ‘selling’. I feel like I am genuinely helping people. I also have given myself this time to learn and make mistakes. I am certain that still my sales pages do not fully reflect all the soul that I put into my work but they are slowly getting there!
As you know, we’re big fans of Conscious Tutoring & Christina Lane Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
From my coaching bio: I am a mom of three, an educator, and an entrepreneur. I own an online education company called Conscious Tutoring in addition to offering powerful embodiment coaching. Most of my clients are looking to address a specific issue in relationship or career and traditional therapy hasn’t been able to meet their needs. I combine 12 weeks of video curriculum with 1-1 sessions to help women call forth change in their life from a place of deep self-connection.
I do most of my teaching posting on Instagram, that is a great place to get a feel for my work. I also put quite a bit of effort into my weekly email list article and I write free e-guides for my subscribers that come from what I learn in my client sessions.
Embodiment coaching found me. I began my certification with the School of Embodied Arts simply as a way to deepen my own relationship with embodiment. After a divorce and significant childhood trauma, I had found feminine embodiment to be the only effective method in breaking my lifelong cycles of stuck-ness and settling. I found through a time of amazing magnetism and opportunity that I possess a transformational gift and it is my extreme pleasure to share it with you.
I have had experience coaching women in embodied dating as the head coach of a large group program and I learned so much about myself from being immersed in their world. I am thrilled to offer my own flavor of coaching to a more diverse set of clients.
Every client gives me a new experience. If my story and my style resonate with you, I hope that you will take a step toward investing in yourself on a deep level by booking a call with me. Humans have been utilizing nervous system & energy center practices as far back as ancient Egypt. If you are looking for a deeper connection with life, then you are in the right place. I guide clients into the body and ask them powerful, intuitive questions that lead them to the depths of their most authentic self.
My client results speak to my skill as a coach but also to the effectiveness of feminine embodiment, which is a combination of nervous system and subconscious mind work. I deeply enjoy my work and I am so proud of the Radiance curriculum. I plan to spend the next few years further developing Radiance. Each woman that partners with me becomes a beautiful part of the curriculum journey.
From my Tutoring bio; Conscious Tutoring is a collective of expert literacy educators. We connect with families virtually to offer small group tutoring experiences that solve learning & motivation issues. We believe that education is changing, and we are excited to be a part of pioneering this new learning landscape as families awaken to their desire to have more influence over their child’s education. In 2023, we are developing our first programs for small group executive functioning and emotion. The pilot groups are for teen girls.
Our current literacy programs are targeted for students in 3rd to 8th grade that are either:
1. Below grade level in reading & writing and need to quickly prepare for the demands of upper elementary or middle school.
2. Struggling to enjoy reading for fun and need support in building good literacy habits to prepare for the rigor of academic reading. We help kids that hate to read and write repair that relationship.
The Founder of Conscious Tutoring is Christina Lane. Christina is a Literacy Specialist with certifications in K to 12 literacy, reading intervention, ESOL and gifted education. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Central Florida and her graduate degree is from Georgia State University. Christina has trained in the Orton Gillingham approach and has trained at Columbia University as part of the Teacher’s College Reaching and Writing Project.
Christina brings a variety of skills and diagnostic tools to the table when working with the teachers at Conscious Tutoring to develop classes, assessments and curriculum. As a parent herself, Christina intimately understands the challenges of finding high-quality and individualized support for your children that is both time-bound and result-oriented.
When Christina in not mentoring teachers & leading sessions at Conscious Tutoring, she works as a certified feminine embodiment relationship & career coach. Christina helps women embody their needs and protect their energy in 1-1 coaching sessions and workshops. As a result of this work, mindset and nervous system regulation are core components to every curriculum created by Christina.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the online education industry, post-pandemic is blowing up. While kids might not have enjoyed being online all day for school during quarantine. Online options, especially group options can be PERFECT for busy families. Kids can hop onto tutoring meetings pretty easily around family life and get a break from being in one more car trip. There is so much opportunity for great educators to offer the curriculum they really believe in online. Public schools, due to laws and budgets, aren’t a great place to work. I think many families will be looking for quality support as they enter years where their school is struggling to employ certified teachers. I also believe parents will need to start becoming very aware of the qualifications of tutors they hire and the staff employed in their district. High-quality education is unfortunately becoming rare.
I believe that so many women are attracted to embodiment because they want to FEEL better. So often, books and talking about their issues leaves them feeling worse. A lot of the self-help industry is really good at making us all feel broken. Embodiment is a path to feeling better and more in control of yourself. Ultimately what we all are seeking is just to feel fundamentally ok and good enough. I have seen that learning how to embody your emotions and gaining nervous system control is the path to that state.
