Inspiring Conversations with Claudia Caycho Acosta of Acosta Injury Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Caycho Acosta.

Hi Claudia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Lima, Peru. I grew up in Gwinnett county and consider Gwinnett to be my home. I graduated from Norcross High School back in 2005 when the Hispanic community was rapidly growing in Georgia. I went to the University of Georgia on a full-ride scholarship and an out-of-state tuition waiver (I was undocumented then). After graduating from UGA, I went to Samford University for law school and I graduated law school in 2013.

I then relocated back to Georgia and started working as an attorney. I practiced immigration law for a couple of years and quickly realized it just was not for me. I am a litigator at heart and found personal injury and workers’ compensation law to be what I wanted to practice. I represented mostly Spanish speaking clients and undocumented workers who have been hurt in accidents due to the negligence of another person or who have been hurt at work.

I am also a mom and have two children. I live in Brookhaven and my husband is a retired Dekalb County investigator. I am one of the very very few Latinas (if not the only one) who exclusively practices injury law.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Everything but smooth, lol. It has been a tough road, I still deal with the imposter syndrome at times. It has been hard getting to where I am – everything from financial challenges to immigration status. It is still challenging specially when I’m confused as the interpreter, it just shows that people in the legal field are not used to seeing Latinas as lawyers.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
It is my new project; after practicing for years under an injury law firm, I opened my own practice. Acosta Injury is dedicated to represent injured victims and to help them navigate the legal system while they are going through their worst moments.

I specialize in car accidents, slip and falls, wrongful death and workers’ compensation.

I am proud that my firm will be one of the only ones (I believe only one) to be an exclusive injury law firm led by a Hispanic female. I am able to bring to the table the legal experience, cultural background and tenacity required when dealing with insurance companies.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I often follow other professional working women on social media, other women entrepreneurs for advice on how to integrate family, work, business and everything else in between.
