Inspiring Conversations with Courtney Houston of Shadowing Pros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Houston.

Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, the beginning of my journey is still in the NOW, but I started with this journey over seven years ago. I remember being a part of high school plays and remembering that it made me feel great. It wasn’t until a few years after high school that I didn’t feel that “great” feeling anymore, and it was there I knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. The year 2016, the next day after my mother’s birthday was when I moved away from my hometown to Georgia to embark in the Entertainment Industry Professionally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road of an entrepreneur and creator is never easy, but to give a visual, my road is half paved. The paved part may still have minor grooves in it, but it’s solid with a foundation that took a while to figure out and build. The gravel part of my road are things that life throws at someone that make it hard to focus and stay the path, being busy trying to thrive while currently only surviving.

I would easily say that the biggest challenge for me is being a small fish in a big sea. To build a brand and business in a new area was and still a challenge for me. Learning how to navigate Georgia while trying to sustain a comfortable lifestyle, I also had to figure out how to place my foot in the thriving entertainment industry in what we now call “Black Hollywood”. Where people are far more advanced and knowledgeable in the same field as me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What you should know about Shadowing Pros: We are known for our informative and fun interviews with Professionals from in front and behind the camera/stage. Shadowing Pros are set apart from other entertainment-based companies because we are not only trying to educate and inspire but we are here to advocate as well. To say you have worked in the entertainment industry does make you feel good and accomplished in some ways, but when you get deep into it you see and experience things that you feel can be better for the people who put sweat and tears in 12 hrs a day, 5 days a week. The saying “Be the Change you want to see” I live by, So Shadowing Pros is making efforts to penetrate the entertainment industry in a positive way to advocate to the voices who don’t feel they are being heard.

The offerings we provide on our social media handles and website are all about castings, shows that are hiring for crew, upcoming shows in the area, and giveaways. Lastly, for the future, we are organizing master classes for acting and how to become the best Production Assistant. So make sure to follow us on all social media handles at Shadowing Pros so you don’t miss out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Many people may call it luck but I like to call it blessings. I was blessed to be introduced to people who were connected to the entertainment industry that was able to help me get my foot in the door. From there, I was blessed to be placed around people who understood grace in the times I was making mistakes while learning the ropes.
