Inspiring Conversations with Daniel Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Brown.

Daniel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I am the youngest of four brothers and grew up on the Southside of Atlanta in College Park. Growing up, I never really saw any Black Attorneys and I never knew that it was possible to become one myself. During my childhood, I was a student-athlete and like most young boys, I hoped my athletic career would somehow involve being a professional athlete, but, it wasn’t meant to be.

I come from a family of educators, and I knew I wanted to be “successful”, but I never thought I would become an Attorney. I decided to blaze my own trail. I was always interested in history and how the law worked. I loved being educated and knowing “my rights” in an effort to teach others. Being a Black male in America, I could never escape the images of police brutality or rid myself of the idea that as a Black man I would have to “carry myself” differently than my White counterparts if I wanted to survive in America.

Once I graduated high school, I went on to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Georgia State University. Subsequently, I went on to obtain my Juris Doctor Degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Upon graduation and passing the bar exam, I was immediately drawn to civil rights activism. In an effort to have my voice heard I began to take to the streets and even peacefully protest with others in order to bring awareness to victims of police brutality or to combat legislation that prohibits minorities in some way. I am able to blend my two passions of activism and being an Attorney into one. I take pride in knowing that I am able to fight for justice for those who are disadvantaged.

In 2019, I started The Law Office of Daniel A. Brown. Our firm services clients in the areas of Civil Rights and Personal Injury. I love what I am able to do as an Attorney each and every day and I have been fortunate enough to handle cases all around the State of Georgia. I am passionate about helping others and I honestly could not imagine myself doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I lost my oldest brother in 2012 right before I attended law school. He was my role model and someone I looked up to for guidance and advice throughout my life. The last thing he told me before he passed away was to complete my dream of becoming an Attorney.

After my first year of law school, I was academically dismissed and had to take a year off from school. This was actually a blessing in disguise. I took that year to continue to develop professionally and place myself in a position to succeed once I entered back into law school.

Lastly, I did not pass the bar exam until I took it the third time. I think God was trying to teach me patience even though I could not see it at the time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started The Law Office of Daniel A. Brown in 2019. Our firm handles cases all over the state of Georgia in the areas of Civil Rights and Personal Injury. What sets me apart is that I truly care about my clients and I love to litigate cases. Most attorneys just want a check and move onto the next case. When I represent a client I am mindful that it is a privilege and not a right. I have a responsibility to represent my client and it is not a responsibility I take lightly.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I learned is to “stay the course”. For me, I tell myself that phrase each and every time something gets tough. This phrase is important to me because in business and more importantly in life things are not always easy, there are ups and downs along the way. However, if you “stay the course” you’ll always come out on top.
