Today we’d like to introduce you to Dashun Jones.
Hi Dashun, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up fast, and I grew up raw. A lot of my early life was shaped by survival—trauma, the streets, and a system that wasn’t designed for me to win. I made mistakes young, paid the price young, and had to rebuild my entire life from scratch when most people my age were just getting started.
But that’s where my real story begins.
Music has always been a part of my identity. I started making music at just eight years old in the third grade. It was the first outlet that allowed me to express emotions I didn’t have the language for yet. After I was released from prison in 2020, I picked music back up seriously and created nonstop until 2024. During that time, music helped me stay grounded, stay focused, and stay connected to purpose. It was therapy. It was survival. It was hope.
When I came home, I made a decision that I refused to be defined by my past. I stepped fully into faith, purpose, and becoming the type of man my younger self needed. I moved from darkness into discipline—fitness, fatherhood, and spiritual leadership became the foundation that changed everything.
I built Out Da Max as a message first: exceed your potential. Not just physically, but mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Then I built RawWay Artist Development and the One By Love Foundation to help others do the same—people who grew up like me, needing direction, stability, and a voice that doesn’t judge.
I’ve spent the last few years transforming my life publicly and privately. From working at LA Fitness to stepping into leadership, from creating community to becoming a father, from broken foundations to building new ones. Everything I do now is rooted in faith, discipline, and legacy.
Today, I’m grateful to be recognized as a rising voice in fitness, fatherhood, and faith-centered motivation. But for me, the mission is bigger than visibility—it’s about impact. It’s about showing people that you can come from nothing, you can mess up, you can fall hard, and still rise into something powerful and meaningful.
My story is still being written, but if there’s one thing I know now:
God wastes nothing, and every chapter becomes purpose.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been anything but smooth. Most of my obstacles came long before any success ever showed up. I grew up fighting battles that forced me to mature early—trauma, instability, survival, and environments where guidance wasn’t available. By the time I was a teenager, I was already dealing with legal trouble, labels, and expectations that didn’t leave much space for hope.
One of my biggest challenges was rebuilding my identity after prison. Coming home sounds simple, but learning how to be consistent, disciplined, patient, and emotionally stable after years of survival-mode is a battle in itself. I had to relearn everything—how to communicate, how to trust, how to navigate conflict, how to make decisions from wisdom instead of fear.
There were seasons where I struggled with anxiety, sleeplessness, and the weight of trying to become a man I had never seen modeled growing up. I was building a new life while also fighting old patterns, old emotions, and the pressure of wanting to provide a different future for my son and for myself.
Music helped me heal for a while, but even then, I was wrestling with figuring out who I was outside of talent. Fitness brought structure, but I still had to learn how to lead others while learning how to lead myself. And stepping into faith required me to confront the version of me that the world knew versus the version God was calling me to become.
Another challenge was learning to navigate relationships—romantic, spiritual, professional—without reacting from old wounds. Growth takes time. Healing takes honesty. And transforming your life while the world watches is not easy.
But every struggle shaped me. Every setback refined me. Every obstacle became a lesson in discipline, humility, and purpose. My challenges didn’t stop my journey—they defined the strength behind it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Out Da Max Fitness & Apparel, LLC is a purpose-driven fitness brand dedicated to helping people exceed their personal limits — mentally, physically, and spiritually. What started as my own transformation journey has now grown into a coaching practice, apparel line, and community that encourages people to “get out the max” in every area of life.
How do you define success?
To me, success isn’t about money, status, or what people see on the outside — it’s about becoming the version of yourself God intended when He created you. Success is waking up every day with discipline, purpose, and integrity. It’s breaking generational patterns, showing up for my son, and building a life that my family can be proud of.
Success is also internal: peace, self-control, growth, and being able to look at my past without being trapped by it. After everything I’ve overcome — prison, trauma, rebuilding my life from zero — success means choosing healing over chaos and purpose over survival.
If I can help people push past their limits, transform their mindset, and find their own version of freedom, that’s success. My mission is to live a life that inspires others to get “Out Da Max” in every area — spiritually, mentally, and physically.
