Inspiring Conversations with DJ Honey Nova of Honey Nova Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Honey Nova.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been creative and multifaceted. In high school, I was deeply involved in extracurricular activities because I was gifted in more than one area. I participated in chorus, dance, step team, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and served as captain of the cheerleading squad. Music was always at the center of my life, I was the girl burning CDs from LimeWire (much to my mother’s frustration), creating my own mixtapes, and carrying my CD player and then yellow Nano iPod with pink headphones everywhere I went. At the time, I didn’t yet realize how important music would be to my future.

After graduating high school, my cousin and I launched a promotion team called BADD Boss Entertainment, hosting some of the hottest clubs in East Atlanta (Obsessions, Mansion Elan, Libra, Ritz 2 etc.) from 2011–2015. We were the party starters, Go-Go dancers, appearing in music videos, and leading a team of 15+ women with good energy. More than anything, we built a strong sisterhood that still exists today. While the experience was invaluable, promotions alone weren’t financially sustainable.

I went on to attend Georgia State University, working as a restaurant hostess in Buckhead and the Perimeter Mall area while earning my bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications with a minor in Theater. Although I wanted to pursue my master’s degree, financial limitations led me into the financial planning industry, where I sold life insurance and ran my own brokerage for five years. While successful, I eventually realized I wasn’t fully using my God-given gifts and felt called to pivot.

During this time, I became a mother, and teaching my daughters how to communicate sparked a deeper purpose. Once they entered school, I discovered I could work as a Speech Therapy Assistant with my bachelor’s degree, a role I’ve now held for three years.

At 30, everything clicked. I realized I was meant to be a DJ after finding myself after PPD. Becoming a mother is beautiful but the old version of yourself has to die so a new version can be birthed. Music has always been my joy and I had to follow that. Once again, my cousin and I partnered to create open mics, comedy shows, and showcases, eventually connecting with a studio where we produced podcasts, artist interviews, and events across multiple cities. I also became Program Director for OYL Radio, helping grow the platform to over 60,000 active listeners.

As a busy mother, wife, and career-oriented woman, I quickly learned that mastering my craft didn’t come with unlimited time or traditional pathways. Instead of waiting for access, I created it. That’s how The Cook Up was born, a DJ jam session I host every other Monday. The Cook Up is a DJ playground where creatives come to freely spin open-format sets, jam for 20 minutes, and walk away with content. The next session takes place January 19, 2026 at East Atlanta Village Pub.

This space was deeply needed. Thanks to the community I’ve built through Threads, over 20 DJs have already come through to share their talents, connections, and creativity in an ego-free environment rooted in good energy and a genuine love for music. What started as an event has grown into a movement called Spin Society ATL, a DJ collective centered on community, creativity, and collaboration.

Grounded in my faith and committed to walking in obedience, I chose to fully step into my calling. In 2025, I launched Honey Nova Productions, combining my love for music, community, and unforgettable experiences. Today, I’ve DJed festivals, weddings, private events, out-of-state showcases, and brand activations with much more on the way. My website launches by the end of January, and I’m excited about what’s ahead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing my lifestyle being a mother, wife, and career-oriented creative while building a brand and staying consistent. I’ve had to learn how to create firm boundaries, especially around my time and energy, and to stop overextending myself.

Another major struggle was truly knowing my worth. Early on, I undervalued my services, either undercharging or saying yes to opportunities that didn’t align, simply for exposure or experience. Over time, I’ve learned that my skill, preparation, and ability to create memorable experiences have real value. Learning how to confidently charge for my services and stand on that has been a critical part of my growth.

Those lessons shaped not only my business, but also how I show up as a professional and as a woman walking in purpose.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honey Nova Productions is a creative production and DJ brand built on community, energy, and unforgettable experiences. At its core, the brand specializes in DJ services, event curation, and creative experiences that bring people together through music, movement, and meaningful moments. I am known for creating high-energy yet intentional spaces, whether that’s at festivals, weddings, private events, brand activations, or community-driven creative gatherings.

What sets Honey Nova Productions apart is the focus on experience over ego. I don’t just play music, I curate moments. Every set, event, and collaboration is designed to make people feel seen, connected, and present. My background in communication, performance, and event production allows me to read rooms, guide energy, and create environments where people feel free to be themselves.

Beyond DJing, the brand is also rooted in community-building. I founded Spin Society ATL, a creative DJ collective and movement that provides DJs and creatives with a safe, ego-free space to practice, collaborate, get content, and grow. Through events like The Cook Up, I’ve created a consistent platform where DJs can sharpen their craft, build relationships, and show up authentically, something that was missing in the local scene.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of building something that aligns with who I am. Honey Nova Productions reflects my values: faith, excellence, creativity, and intentional connection. As a mother, wife, and entrepreneur, I’ve created a brand that proves you can walk in purpose while still creating joy and culture. I’m proud that my work not only entertains but also empowers.

What I want readers to know is that Honey Nova Productions is more than a DJ service, it’s a movement. Whether you’re booking an event, attending a jam session, or collaborating creatively, you’re stepping into a space designed with care, professionalism, and heart. The goal is always the same: create memorable experiences, elevate creative voices, and leave people better than how they came in.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that’s been most important to my success is obedience paired with resilience. I’ve learned to listen to God, to my intuition, and to the quiet nudges that tell me when it’s time to pivot, start over, or create something from scratch. That obedience has allowed me to move even when the path wasn’t clear or comfortable.

Along with that, resilience has carried me through every season. I’ve reinvented myself multiple times, balanced motherhood, marriage, and career, and kept showing up even when resources were limited or support wasn’t guaranteed. I don’t quit when things get hard, I adapt, I learn, and I keep building.

That combination has shaped how I lead, how I create, and how I serve. It’s what allows me to grow with intention, stay aligned with my purpose, and turn challenges into opportunities without losing myself in the process.
