Hi Dorothy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Quality care started as a dream in 2016. I experienced homecare within my family and other agencies. I gained so much knowledge and experience providing homecare for my parents, taking care of friends and clients of other agencies. Making a wage as low as $9 an hour, hiding the fact that I had a college degree. The opportunity finally presented itself and I grabbed it, how? by investing in a consulting company that pointed, guided and educated me regarding my decision. Through much prayer, worry and trust, I started out with one dementia client, then seen it grow up to over a hundred clients at a given time. during the last 7 years. The homecare industry is a roller coaster- up and down, but the important thing to remember is sometime the client ratio will drop and then eventually go up.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and No. We as a homecare agency work with people not machines, which means people will transition and when that happens, it leaves a caregiver needing another assignment. Other challenges that are normal in a business such as this are scheduling conflicts, having enough employees, not having enough employees, balancing budget for the business, accountant and legal cost and most of all, time management as an owner.

Quality care is a homecare organization that specialize in providing non-medical assistance to our clients, such as baths, med reminders, transportation, companionship, laundry, lighthouse keeping just to list some. All should know that this is a business that we take seriously and treat it as a professional service to each of our clients. I, as the owner will caregiver if needed, I will do whatever is needed to keep the business running smoothly. I have an office staff that keeps the business running very smoothly – so much so, that I can participate in assistance with marketing and socializing with our vendors for validation.
What’s next?
One thing I’ve learned it is to not share everything or publicize all my intentions, however, there are BIG things happening for the new year that will keep us at the top of the list, everyone is not for you and will make every effort to make it their business to ruin yours for no personal reason.
