Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Brian Martinez.
Hi Dr. Martinez, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, since I was a child I have loved healthy lifestyles, sports, human physiology, justice and always contemplating and impacting physically and emotionally healthy communities.
My interest in always finding a space of how to improve emotionally and physically led me to fall in love with human sciences in both mind and body as one of the ways to heal.
In the course of my life I was part of the track and field team in the events of 1500mts, 5,000mts and 10k for the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce where I studied a Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences.
At the end of my bachelor’s degree, I decided to enlist in the armed forces of the United States, ARMY National Guard, in order to help the community of Puerto Rico and Latin America in times of vulnerability such as natural disasters and restoration of essential services in different communities. My passion for helping and communicating to the Latino communities has always been the energy that drives me to collaborate and contribute for a better well-being.
While belonging to the ARMY I decided to continue my desire to evolve and contribute to the lifestyle and wellness and I found the beautiful profession of chiropractic. In which I decided to embark on the adventure of discovering new and proven perspectives on how the human body can heal.
I was accepted into LIFE University in Marietta, Georgia one of the largest chiropractic schools in the world. Chiropractic came into my hands and with them I decided to dedicate myself to becoming a chiropractor.
During the process, my desire to help and contribute to the Latino communities continued to grow in which I undertook multiple trips to different Latin American countries as a missionary with the purpose of educating and expanding the benefits of chiropractic to these resource-constrained communities. I visited, contributed and took with me beautiful memories in the countries of the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Mexico.
When I graduated from college I began working directly with the Latino and Asian communities in the GWINETT and ATLANTA GEORGIA area.
In the last three years I have focused on bringing the message of health and wellness to the Latino communities in multiple settings, Health Fairs, social media and as a speaker at Life University.
Listening and public speaking has been one of my missions to continue educating our Latino communities in our language how we can support and motivate each other to continue working for what moves us.
In the process of much learning, I started my own business in which I continue to develop with the goal and vision since I was a child. Health, communities and wellness to be able to live in our maximum potential as human beings.
Today I am located in the city of Duluth, GA.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The process has been up and down, one of the challenges I faced was not being able to express myself effectively in the English language since my main language is Spanish. Having doubts and questions and not knowing how to articulate the questions, my mind and language were not connected. In that process you are faced with doubts, teasing, anxieties, among other self-demands both personal and social. Another challenge was having to keep up with my schedule as a military and graduate school student. Every month I had to travel from Atlanta to Puerto Rico to fulfill my training and missions in the Puerto Rican community while also having to meet academic demands. I was faced with having to find a time where sometimes there was none.
Another challenge is being a Latino wanting to start a business, a lot of ignorance, multiple people wanting to take advantage of your vulnerability and innocence. God has always been my strength and the courage to evolve and contribute.
We’ve been impressed with Elevate Your Spine Chiropractic, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In my chiropractic clinic, you will find individualized services focused on raising, maintaining or preventing problems that prevent you from performing your daily activities. I also focus on the communities of people who have suffered car and work accidents with the purpose of getting them back to their jobs, families and their motivations that many times these injuries prevent them from living.
In my clinic we offer chiropractic adjustment services, both spine and extremities, shoulder, knee, ankles, hands, etc. We also offer cold laser services to speed up healing processes and soothe pain, cupping therapy, lumbar decompression.
Chiropractic in our clinic focuses on your nervous system being able to function at its optimum capacity by removing and helping the body to work as efficiently as possible. The consequences of chiropractic are mostly very positive, in your overall health, in my clinic we not only focus on your pain but we take you to discover corners of yourself that you don’t know yet.
What does success mean to you?
In my own words, success is the state of fulfillment where you find a balance between your purpose and the duties and obligations of where you live. Success is within us, you just have to be willing to discover it, many times it requires reinventing yourself multiple times, physically, mentally and spiritually.
