Inspiring Conversations with Essence Oni of The Financial Paramedic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Essence Oni.

Hi Essence, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I used to be a RN living check to check. I had bad credit and was drowning in student loan debt. After a divorce, I decided that I needed to better my financial situation for me and my son. I started to teach myself about credit. I started fixing my credit. Then I started fixing credit for friends and family.

Once I started learning about credit, it led me into taxes. As I learned about taxes, I decided to educate people and become a tax preparer.

Watching my financial situation change led me to become passionate about helping others to save money on taxes and keep more of their money in their pocket.

Eventually, I started helping so many people.

I was able to walk away from my full-time nursing job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting into entrepreneurship is never smooth. It’s scary losing the “security “ that comes with a job. It was a push back from family and friends who couldn’t believe I’d walk away from nursing to fix credit.

We’ve been impressed with The Financial Paramedic, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I do credit restoration, tax prep services and financial education.

I focus on education not just providing a service.

I’m most proud to be a 5 star company and have a trusted brand in an industry that’s has gotten a stigma.

I want readers to know that our service is unmatched and that if given the opportunity, they’d feel how genuine we are about making sure our clients are better when they leave us.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID 19 has taught me to have my business in order. Meaning booking, payroll, taxes, etc. I’ve learned the importance of staying ready so you don’t have to get ready. Being unprepared can cost you opportunities.
