Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Torres.
Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had always dreamed of opening my own place one day after graduating from esthetics. Right out of school, I worked for almost three years under someone else at their salon and knew I wanted more. One day, while sitting at home my husband, (then boyfriend), grabbed his laptop and said “let’s make a logo”. That’s when it all began, and the dream started becoming reality.
I began forming my llc and getting all the necessary things in order. I had a friend who had her own business operating out of “My Salon Suites” in downtown Alpharetta. She informed me that there was an open suite and that I should go tour it. I ended up signing the lease within just a few days and the key was mine! I was now officially “The Waxed Tulip”. About a week and a half after opening and seeing clients I was shut down by COVID-19. I was so nervous, not knowing what was going to happen. I just spent a lot of money getting my business up and going and wasn’t sure when I would be able to work again. After 6 weeks I was able to get back to work and was so relieved. I had missed my clients so much. Fast forward almost 3 years later and here I am still going strong. Had it not been for the tremendous support of my husband, family and clients I wouldn’t be here today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles were being shut down for the 6 week period during COVID-19, not knowing if I would have clientele when and if I was able to get back to work. Also, just trying to be the best possible so clients actually want to come back and spread my name into the community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a licensed esthetician. I mainly do hair removal using wax and sugar, but I also do facials such as dermaplaning and European facials. I specialize in making the wax as comfortable as possible. Clients tell me they come to me because of the products I use, I make their visit enjoyable, I put them at ease and they like my personality. Being a solo business person allows me to connect with my clients and develop relationships with them and I think that’s important. These are things that make me most proud as a business owner. There are so many wax places they could go to, but they chose to come to mine.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being the best at what I do and giving my clients the best possible experience. That is what brings people back time and time again.
