Inspiring Conversations with Jalinia Logan of Growth & Guidance Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalinia Logan.

JALINIA LOGAN

Hi Jalinia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I could tell my story by saying that it was initially a vision to become a therapist after visiting a therapist for the first time. After working as a nurse for over a decade, I decided it was time for a change and wanted to continue to helping people working in healthcare but in a different capacity. I started my business to bring more awareness regarding mental health and provide additional support for people towards improving their overall health. I wanted to encourage more people to address concerns related to mental illness and combat the disparities that many people often encounter in society. As a nurse and a therapist, I wanted to create a business that would also help other people to become future skilled clinicians working to improve the quality of care provided in the healthcare system. My business started as an individual practice as the owner, which later grew into a group practice now located in two states both in Georgia and Illinois.

Since being in business, I have partnered and served with several different entities over various communities and across multiple states. My business has also provided several jobs and opportunities to many people working in the healthcare industry. Lastly, Growth & Guidance Counseling has been on various TV media platforms, such as Daytime Talk Chicago platforms and has grossed over six figures annually for almost four years. I hope to one day create a multi-purpose high-rise building all surrounding mental health resources and other healthcare support, which will be very impactful in giving people access to things that are needed.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although, it has not been a smooth road, I would not trade it for the world because I know that I am living in my purpose, which is something that some people take a lifetime to find. Some of the struggles have included getting consistent staff who also understand the vision. More importantly, it has been challenging at times to get people to understand the importance of mental health as well as managing overall health due to various disparities or simple lack of information, which is something that my business strives to do in educating people about the impact of having healthy quality lives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Growth & Guidance Counseling was founded and owned by Jalinia Logan. This is therapy private practice that provides counseling therapy services to individuals, couples, families, and groups. We specialize in treating anxiety and other anxiety-related disorders. A major factor about this practice is that we ensure that all of clients have or get connected to a (PCP) primary care physician to manage their physical health as well. Over 90 % of our client population has an identified PCP. We also partner with other local entities, such as schools and hospitals to raise more awareness and provide support with mental health. Growth & Guidance now has two offices in both Georgia and Illinois. We are preparing to launch the next grand opening at our second location located in Marietta, Georgia at the beginning of the new year January 16, 2024, where we plan to make history living out MLK’s dream.

Lastly, I also have a journal available that I created entitled “Journal Your Journey” which is a supplement in addition to therapy for those that are working on managing their mental health. This can be obtained by emailing journalyourjourneynow@gmail.com.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor is to find someone that you know who is doing extremely well, has an impact, and inspires you to become better; I think it is also ideal to find a person who shares a similar vision or great work ethic. Networking can be done by attending various conferences, workshops, and webinars where you can learn and grow from other people in various industries. I aligned with a couple of organizations that were geared toward women’s empowerment, and that was one of the things that helped me reach success. In addition to my hard work, dedication, and perseverance, along with my positive, reassuring self-talk. I learned to focus on not just who I am but also who I am becoming.
