Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameel Martin
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jameel Martin, and I’m from Decatur, Georgia. Golf has been an integral part of my life since I first picked up a club at the age of 6. My father Daryl Martin-a passionate golf instructor, role model, and CEO of Bnatural Products-introduced us to the game. I was fortunate to share this passion with my siblings. My brothers Joshua, Askaree, and my sisters, Jada and Tahleebah, and the founder of Eastside Golf Olajuwon Ajanaku. For me, golf was never just a hobby; it was a competitive pursuit rooted in my father’s legacy as a high School All-American. From day one, the game has held a special place in my heart and has shaped my journey.
Growing up, I was blessed to have a strong support system, from my family to close friends who shared the same passion. Alongside my golf brothers from Eastlake, I developed my skills, and we pushed each other to be our best. This foundation ultimately fueled my journey in the golf world. After competing in college, where I received my bachelor’s degree at Talladega College in business, I transitioned into the next chapter of my career, which led me to create the Couples Club Golf League (CCGL).
Shelton Davis, my vice president and longtime friend from Eastlake Meadows, has been instrumental in building CCGL with me. Together, we’ve worked to make it more than just a league; it’s a community that brings people together through golf. My journey has had its challenges, but each step has brought me closer to this vision. We are incredibly excited to launch the Couples Club Golf League in March 2025 and to build a community around a sport that’s been at the core of my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has added something meaningful to the journey. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing my passion for golf with the practical aspects of building a league. Organizing events, finding the right courses, and creating an experience that resonates with couples takes a lot of work. It’s not just about golf; it’s about building a community and making sure every member feels valued.
I’ve also faced personal setbacks, like surgeries and struggling with S1 radiculopathy that took me off the course temporarily, which was difficult since golf has always been my anchor.
Fortunately, I have an incredible team that helps make the vision a reality. Shelton Davis, my vice president, has been crucial in navigating these obstacles and turning them into growth opportunities. Tamica Ennis, our Director of Events, ensures that each event will be memorable and engaging, and Hedy Wong, our Creative Director, brings fresh ideas and an amazing creative touch to our branding and outreach. Each challenge has strengthened our vision and fueled our commitment to creating a space where couples can connect and enjoy the game together. We are working extremely hard to ensure the 2025 launch season will be remarkable and memorable for all couples.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Couples Club Golf League ?
The Couples Club Golf League (CCGL) is more than just a golf league; it’s a vibrant community designed to bring couples together through the game of golf. We focus on creating an inclusive, fun, and welcoming environment where couples of all skill levels can connect, learn, and compete in a relaxed, social setting.
Our league specializes in organizing weekly events at some of Georgia’s finest courses, from casual outings to friendly competitions. What sets us apart is our commitment to a unique, community-driven experience. We’re not just about scores or competition; we’re about shared experiences and creating memories. Each event is crafted to foster camaraderie and enjoyment, which is why we will be known for our warm, inclusive atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome.
I’m incredibly proud of the brand and what it stands for—especially the dedication of our team. With Shelton Davis as vice president, Tamica Ennis as our Director of Events, Hedy Wong as our Creative Director, and Kayla Furlow our fashion/marketing director, we have a strong foundation. Together, we focus on delivering memorable experiences and creative, engaging events that make CCGL stand out.
A highlight for us has been partnering with Georgia Golf Company as our apparel sponsor. Their support has been instrumental in our journey, and we’re excited to showcase their high-quality apparel that embodies the spirit of golf with a charming southern flair. This collaboration not only enhances our brand but also elevates the visibility of Georgia Golf Company within the golfing world, aligning our shared goal of promoting golf in Georgia.
The league will officially start on March 12 and run through October 29, 2025. What I want readers to know is that CCGL isn’t just for golf lovers; it’s for anyone looking to connect and enjoy quality time in a beautiful setting. Whether you’re an avid golfer or just curious, our league offers something for everyone. We’re all about creating a space where couples can unwind, enjoy themselves, and build lasting memories.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is an essential part of any entrepreneurial journey. For me, a major risk was getting out of my comfort zone after recovering from multiple surgeries. Facing my fear of public spaces taught me the importance of going at my own pace and embracing perseverance.
Building the Couples Club Golf League itself was a significant leap of faith, as I invested time and resources into an idea I believed could bring couples together through golf. The collaboration with Spark Golf was Shelton’s idea, and it was a fantastic moment for us. Their platform is always growing and caters to golfers globally, which has enhanced our offerings and helped us reach a broader audience.
While I’m not a reckless risk-taker, I believe calculated risks are necessary for growth. Each risk has taught me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptation, which are crucial in today’s fast-paced world.
