Inspiring Conversations with Janiece Jenkins of Witness in Color

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janiece Jenkins

Hi Janiece, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It’d be an honor! After completing my studies at Northern Arizona University, I received a bachelor’s in Business Management and a certificate in Enterprise Systems. I went on to navigate management positions but noticed the plethora of brilliant business ideas in my own community that weren’t progressing because they didn’t know where to start.

Because of this, I was inspired to transition to the start-up industry to help small business owners develop Fortune 500 company-like growth strategies. That led to the creation of Witness in Color, a company that provides resources to incredible people who are doing incredible things.

I believe in community empowerment, which begins with everyone playing their role! So, outside of resources for project management, marketing, and business plans, I’m also a cheerleader for my clients. Transitioning from corporate or having bosses to entrepreneurship can be hard, so I’m here to hold them accountable and make the dream tangible through strategies that meet them where they’re at.

I’m a creative at heart, so I love watching my clients get into their creative energy and provide new services to their community!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been smooth because I feel aligned with what I know I’m supposed to be doing. Blessings and opportunities seem to drop out of the sky, but I believe this is the case when we’re in flow with our gifts and doing the work.

Sure, there have been uncomfortable moments on this entrepreneur journey, but they’ve been nothing compared to the haunting thought of going back to devoting 60+ hours to someone else’s dream with little to no time to develop my own businesses and creative projects. My business, Witness in Color, was placed on my heart, so I’m seeing this all the way through.

Some of those uncomfortable moments include having to remain flexible during the pivots that are required in entrepreneurship and then regulating my nervous system after transitioning from not the healthiest work environment. This is something I wish we talked about more in the industry. It’s so easy to push ourselves to our limits with our work, but surprise, surprise – to cultivate creative energy that helps with business strategy and solutions for my clients, my nervous system must be regulated. That’s where the creative energy comes from, so “self-care” habits that help move that energy in the body, like working out, massages, healthy, yummy food, and sleep (lots of sleep), are required for my success.

Including these habits in the budget was also an uncomfortable adjustment at first because we’re conditioned to think overworking is a badge of honor and that these self-care activities are luxuries. So it’s definitely been a shift, but it’s all for the better!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Witness in Color?
Witness in Color is about witnessing incredible people doing incredible things by providing resources for growth. We believe all ideas deserve to be championed and supported, as we believe everyone came into this world with a unique talent, idea, business, or service to better the community.

The whole isn’t complete without the individual living in alignment with their destiny, so our goal is to provide the tools needed to do just that. Resources include business plans, marketing, project management, graphic design, customized customer journey funnels, social media audits, and capturing in-person events for social media content.

In our brand logo and images, you’ll see the palm tree, which is a true testimony to every part of the plant being used when consumed in our culture. From the seeds to the palm oil, the coconuts, and the fronds, every piece is important, just like every individual is important to the overall community.

We also pride ourselves on knowing our lane. We’re not trying to be everything for our clients and hold on to them forever—the goal is to help entrepreneurs and creatives get started and flesh out their brand story through their medium of choice, like a new product launch, social media, or a business plan. Once their brand story and products are established with us, we have a network of trusted agencies available to help them 5 – 10x their revenue.

Commmunity care is going to be the thing that saves us all in the end, so it’s important that everyone is in their lane and doing what they do best!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Providing value.

It’s easy to scam your way into money or start a business just to start one. It’s different when you’re providing value to a demographic you’re in community with and when your services/offers align with your natural gifts.

This opens the conversation to longevity and sustainability because we’re able to get creative in finding solutions that will transform with our ever-changing society.

This also allows us to open up the conversation about what we value as a community outside of money. During my first couple of months of starting Witness in Color, I had a client who wasn’t able to pay my fees but would regularly fix me a plate when she cooked for her family. This “plate” would last me days, and this was awesome because when I get into the throws of work, cooking is the last thing on my mind. However, health is important to me, and Uber Eats fees can be criminal, so during this time, home-cooked meals in exchange for my services in building their business plan was everything.

As grid outages, inflation, climate change, and growing awareness of injustices around the world through our tax dollars continue, it’s important that people feel confident in their skills as well as their community to have their back as things get rocky.
