Inspiring Conversations with John Goodrum of Georgia Pro MMA

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Goodrum.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Been training and coaching MMA for 14 years. Training and competed in jiujitsu for many years before becoming a jujitsu coach. Trained in Ex pro-MMA fighter Sam Wells at Hardknoxs MMA fitness for my entire training career until last June when the gym closed down. This is when I opened Georgia Pro MMA in Canton Georgia. We started with 15 students and now have over 70 online members and 35 in-class students.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every day is a struggle. Training MMA helped me learn business management and operations by learning what makes a great gym and not by attending different gyms over the years. This process made the opening of a business easier than one who hasn’t. Between injuries and family, training was always a challenge but did whatever no could to get to where I am today!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Georgia Pro MMA?
We are an MMA gym for everyone. We specialize in getting athletes to be the best possible version of themselves for fighting or self-defense. We teach Muay Thai, No Gi Jiujitsu, Wrestling, and Boxing.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The Ppl are best and traffic is my dislike.
