Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny and Stacey Washington.
Hi Johnny and Stacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We understand moments define life. Therefore, we sought to create a brand that helps to capture, complete, and restore life’s moments. Because most of life’s best moments are centered around food, our solution was to develop and make a good old fashion pound cake. Not just your everyday run-of-the-mill pound cake, but one that would also do grandmama proud.
Hence, we started with the traditional pound cake pan used by grandmothers for decades gone by. We then sought out the very best wholesome and finest ingredients we could find. And lastly, we formulated a recipe that we loved. We then baked and tweaked it over and over again until we came up with an exceptional made-from-scratch pound cake that is simple, sweet, scrumptious, and worthy of being the centerpiece for the many precious moments you share.
Lastly, we made the decision to NEVER freeze our pound cakes. In fact, we bake every one of them to order. That’s why we are proud to proclaim that our pound cakes are FRESHLY BAKED, NEVER FROZEN, and delivered straight to your door!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our moments led us to Yours! It’s true. Until 2016, we lived a full life filled with great moments and precious memories. But life has the uncanny ability to steal moments right from under you when you are least expecting it.
The thievery of our moments started with open heart surgery in 2016. This led to months and months of rehab and recovery. However, while barely recovering from that surgery, Johnny went into full-on heart failure months later. Subsequently, the heart failure led to months of endless doctor visits and a continuous flow of IV meds to help his heartbeat.
After eventually being placed on the heart transplant list, he was admitted into the hospital in the summer of 2017, where he would wait in the Cardiac ICU ward for five months before receiving a heart transplant in the winter of 2017. Moments were taken. Moments were lost.
In January 2018, after being home in recovery for a few weeks, we received the devastating news of Stacey’s father’s sudden passing. It was grief on top of grief. Pain on top of pain. He was the cornerstone of our family and especially of her life. His loss is an enduring pain that is still suffered today. Moments spent with him and revolving around him are forever lost for Stacey and for us.
We thought we were on the road to recovery and restoration, but there were 4 additional other related surgeries in 2019. Then, in 2020, we all felt and witnessed the pandemic sweep in like swarming locusts across the country and the world, consuming and destroying whatever moments lay in its wake.
Enough was enough. It was time to capture, complete, and restore the stolen moments for all… Bundtish was born.
