Inspiring Conversations with Joseph Brown of Smith, Wallis & Scott, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Brown.

Hi Joseph, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Smith, Wallis & Scott, LLC began in 1994 when a few in-house corporate lawyers decided to open their own firm. They felt their skills would be better used to help people who have been injured, rather than defending a large corporation. Since opening we have helped thousands of individuals who have been injured at work, in car accidents, medical malpractice, etc. Partners Joseph Brown, Chris Scott, and Isabel Aidun continue to serve the firm’s mission in helping individuals fight for the compensation and recognition they deserve.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There will always be struggles when running a legal business. Whether it be growing pains, legislative changes, staffing difficulties. There is always somewhere we can improve, and we make daily efforts to better serve our clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a law firm located in Carrollton, Georgia. We specialize in personal injury, workers’ compensation, medical malpractice, and social security disability claims, What separates our firm from others is the personal service we offer to each of our clients. By the end of a case, we consider our clients part of our family. Our firm has made it a priority to help our local school system and recognize the great teachers and other professionals that are educating our youth. We are very proud of this relationship.

What matters most to you? Why?
People are what matters the most. Specifically, helping people who are unable to fight for themselves due to insurers and corporations having infinitely more resources than they do. I know our work makes a difference. A great example is when a client was injured at work, after having working for this particular company for 27 years. Instead of providing the benefits that are client was entitled to receive, the insurance company chose to fight us tooth and nail to deny coverage. By fighting back against the insurance company, we helped our client stave of foreclosure on their home, repossession of their vehicle, etc. After trying the case, the judge awarded our client with all of the benefits they were entitled to receive, plus ordered the insurance company to pay for our attorney fees due to their unreasonable defense of the claim.
