Inspiring Conversations with Julie Eubanks of Be Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Eubanks.

Hi Julie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Be Yoga on the Marietta Square 12 years ago. I had been practicing yoga for about eight years at that time and I just couldn’t find a studio that I felt comfortable in. So, I decided to create my own studio. A studio that would celebrate individuality and authenticity while fostering a deep sense of community and belonging.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road, but I would say Covid and the lockdowns were especially difficult in my industry. Immediately, we were forced into closing our doors to the public and offering classes online (something we had never done before). And even once we re0pened, the restrictions for gyms required social distancing measures that cut our class capacity into a third of what it was. And fewer people were ready to come back anyway because of fear around the disease and infection rates. We had to make a lot of changes to cleaning procedures, timing of classes, mat spacing and even implementing contact tracing.

We’ve been impressed with Be Yoga, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a yoga studio that offers a variety of styles of yoga including hot power yoga, vinyasa yoga, basic yoga, yin yoga, prenatal yoga, kids yoga, and pilates. I am most proud of our variety of instructors and how each one teaches authentically from their heart. The diversity of the teachers and their unique passion for the practice creates a diverse community of students where anybody can feel welcome and like they belong here. It’s not one size fits all.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a mechanical engineer by trade and I worked at Ford Motor Company at an assembly plant before I started my studio. I was a project manager and maybe surprisingly I feel like that background has served me as a business owner. It’s all about clear communication, setting and meeting expectations, planning for what could go wrong and thinking outside the box.
