Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Stevens.
Julie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 aggressive, inoperable, chemo-resistant colon cancer and had a 14% chance of survival.
I was diagnosed June 14, 2022, at the age of 43 with no family history or symptoms, just low iron in my blood. I used my skills in industrial/organizational psychology as well as throwing theme parties to build a strategy – and was cancer-free in 9 months.
I started MOJO Health with the person responsible for my life, my herbalist Oscar Sierra. I wanted to scale the information I learned so that everyone could have the same advantages in their battle. It started with a book, MOJO Healing (https://www.mojohealth.org/
Most recently, I created a strategy builder (https://www.mojohealth.org/
MOJO Health is a collection of people committed to the vision that there is a better way to heal from cancer and ready to work to be the change we wish to see in the world. We have six employees on two continents from a schoolteacher to an army officer to a brand strategist. We are all bringing the best of who we are to get this launched!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road getting people to take us seriously – once you listen, it’s clear we are correct and even doctors are joining forces – but it’s scary to hear the hard facts about the standard of care and how they aren’t using the best data to predict treatment efficacy, so people tend to shut it down at first.
Also getting people to believe they are worth the investment. It’s hard work to be healthy! But my story proves it can happen – beyond healing stage 4 aggressive, inoperable, and chemo-resistant colon cancer – I have also lost 130 pounds!
We’ve been impressed with MOJO Health, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nothing like us exists today. This is a patient-led organization to change the game on cancer! I am collecting best practices and stories from people who have defeated the odds and healing approaches from around the world and putting thought leadership and expertise in one place to help patients build their strategies.
I wanted to understand what I could hold my doctors accountable for, so when I was building my strategy, I studied medical school curriculum and it was shifted in 1909 to exclude any traditional healing methodology (due to the Flexner Report) – but that was a mistake, so we are building solutions to create healthcare equity so everyone understands what else they should consider in their healing journey to have a truly holistic approach. Our goal is to bring together the BEST of conventional (western) and traditional (acupuncture, chiropractic, reflexology, massage, etc.) healing approaches to maximize healing and minimize pain.
We are picking one “problem” at a time and disrupting the market. First, it was empowering patients to build a team of support to heal all aspects of health, so I wrote a book, then to teach people how to make side effects optional, so we launched our strategy builder for free. Our new health registry can support you in a truly meaningful and timely way by telling people exactly what you need to heal– then the next one is EMF Blocking Blankets, a total departure – but something that presented itself and we can create a path to healing in a form that doesn’t exist, so we took a chance and as we move into March, should open pre-sales for the MOJO Tranquility blanket. I am studying the health needs from a patient perspective and redesigning the support offered to help people heal.
Together we can make cancer suck less.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think it helped me understand the limitations of the healthcare system and how I needed to advocate for myself for the best care possible. Now, I want to teach others how to do the same thing!
