Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliette “Lyrrique” Ford.
Juliette “Lyrrique”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey in the entertainment industry as a songwriter. After I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. I written lyrics and submitted songs to many artists, including Janet Jackson, CeCe Peniston, Keisha Cole, etc. Even though I have experience in recording my own songs, I have worked with Amanda Brown (Alicia Keys, Adele, Justin Timberlake’s background singer) to get songs I’ve written professionally recorded. Through that journey, I had the opportunity to write a song for a full-feature film, and I realized writing songs and submitting songs by independent artists was something I really enjoyed. From there, I began working in numerous film productions as a producer’s assistant and as a music supervisor. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many actors and receive mentorship by my dear friend and award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr.
In 2018, I started my own company (Reel Music Group, LLC), which is a service that places music in film, tv, video games, and other media outlets. In 2023, I began a new journey in distribution for film and tv through Mann Robinson Distribution. I have also started producing documentaries and tv shows. I’m mentoring students at a local private school to teach them how the art of filmmaking relates to their studies in Math, Science, History and Language Arts. My goal is to provide more opportunities for actors and musicians, to continue to mentor and assist them through their journey to follow their dreams.
You can also find me working with my community as a philanthropist and as a canvasser for voter registration. I may wear many hats but I stand firmly under the umbrella of God’s blessings.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were a few bumps in the road during my process of having my own music company. A lot of filmmakers turned me down at first when I asked to place music in the for productions due to their other established relationships with other music supervisors. Luckily, I was able to achieve my first placement on the tv series Music & Murder” and then on other numerous projects on major streaming platforms. The latest music placement is in the feature film “A New Life” now streaming on Amazon.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Reel Music Group, LLC is a full-service music placement company that places music with lyrics, instrumental music and voiceovers in film, tv shows, video games, and other media platforms.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During the Covid 19 Crisis, I learned how important it is to remember to follow up on all business relationships you’ve made during your journey of networking. When things shut down, it was more important than ever to make those phone calls, zoom meetings, etc. to keep our minds focused and to be ready to work when the shutdown was over.
