Inspiring Conversations with Kate Morrissey Stahl of Revolution Therapy and Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Morrissey Stahl.

Hi Kate, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We have been offering donation yoga as Rubber Soul Yoga Revolution since 2006, when we were founded by Cal Clements to make sure that yoga was financially accessible to everyone in the community. In 2019 we transitioned to Revolution Therapy and Yoga after Cal transitioned out and Kate Morrissey Stahl transitioned in as the owner of the studio, and Nicole Bechill as the manager.

In our current form, we offer donation-based community yoga classes that are trauma informed, as well as more specialized groups for using yoga to promote wellbeing. We also have a team who offers therapy with a specialzation in sex therapy, mindfulness, and somatic approaches to trauma.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID was a big transition point for us. Yoga could not be in person and so moved online, and the comedy theater we had shared our space with went out of business. Fortunately, Dr. Morrissey-Stahl already had her practice in the space and was able to expand that practice to help meet the growing mental health needs in the community while also continuing to offer yoga and mindfulness classes. We also renovated the building during our shutdown for COVID to create more offices for therapists and a cozier yoga room to support the more intimate yoga classes we were hoping to provide.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Revolution Therapy and Yoga?
Revolution Therapy and Yoga is a somatic trauma, sex therapy and yoga space in Athens, GA.
We are a multipurpose mind-body wellness studio located in the historic Leathers building near downtown. We offer, therapy sessions by licensed clinical professionals including sex therapy, couple therapy, grief and trauma therapy. We also offer accessible yoga classes for connection and stress relief, and host small groups for meditation and recovery.

Our mission is to provide accessible community offerings for yoga and therapy with an emphasis on trauma-informed practices that promote physical, spiritual, sexual, emotional, and creative well-being. We are inspired by cooperative principles. We are dedicated to moving our organization and our community toward anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices through reflective and intentional organizational flexibility.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Our yoga community supported us through the whole change, moving online but also tuning in from all over the world for yoga classes, which was an unexpected and sweet bright side of moving classes online.

Our amazing team of yoga teachers and therapists has been wonderfully flexible through all the difficulty of COVID and has helped us to regroup and return in our new form in which we can serve the community using our unique talents.

We also got wonderful support from SCORE mentors, who are business coaches, during this transition. Dr. Nikki Tobias coached Kate Morrissey Stahl and Carolina Martini coached Nicole Bechill.
