Inspiring Conversations with Katlyn Brumbelow of The Ghost Orchid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katlyn Brumbelow.

Hi Katlyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out on the road to medical school and got a bachelor’s in Biology. After I graduated and started the next steps of the process, I realized I didn’t care for that life at that time and wanted a family. I had worked for a small florist through college and loved it but didn’t have a full-time position. So I took a job as a sales coordinator in the meantime. Soon after, I found out I was pregnant! I couldn’t have been happier. But because of a hard pregnancy and the premature birth of my daughter, I couldn’t stay with the company. So I decided to start my own business in order to be with my baby and still bring in money. The Ghost Orchid is coming up on its second birthday and we are looking forward to many more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say a smooth road is subjective. As things that I have gone through may be easier or harder on others. As always, there are some trials, like being a full-time mom to a 3lb baby while building a business from the ground up, that have been trying, but others, like being able to spend quality time with my daughter and fiancé that I wouldn’t have been able to during a typical 9-5, have made this the best decision I have ever made.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Ghost Orchid?
The Ghost Orchid is an event floristry company that specializes in creating one-of-a-kind looks to fit any style. We handle everything from bridal bouquets to balloon arches and are always looking to expand our knowledge of trends and techniques.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Always keep a positive outlook. Running a business is difficult and takes a lot of time and energy, but keeping positive and pushing forward instead of focusing on the more difficult instances even when you’ve been turned away or pushed down will lead to more success and keep you sane.
