Hi Kaylon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started this skincare business back in October 2020, mainly because I was so irritated and frustrated with how lotions or body moisturizers weren’t doing anything for my skin, I had just enrolled in school and the idea of me making my own products for my skin type just started flowing, I started mixing different oils and things together until I came up with the perfect ingredient mixture to satisfy my skin, I knew, if I could fix the problem for me, that I could help others with their skin as well. I started with only body butter and although I had many, many mistrial… I kept going until it was the perfect result. I waited about 6 months later before I started promoting the product, giving away free samples for people to try and that is how I built my clientele, people started to love the product so I got my llc and started making more products to add to my line, body sugar scrub, lip scrub, lip balm, bath salts, etc. before you know it, I was selling my products in many different states. I specialize in dry/sensitive skin, and eczema… today makes two full years my business has been in business and I am so grateful that I can help many different woman/men with their skin.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I will honestly say, running a business isn’t for the weak. There will be times where it is ordered after order.. and you will have days where you only get one order a month, it’s about consistency though, I’ve had to throw away many batches of product because it didn’t turn out right, I’ve went months without orders, I’ve even felt like giving the whole business up.. but I kept my faith and I’m here today.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see my business growing every day, in the next five years I plan to have an actual building plus my online, I dream to sell outside of the states and so much more. I want the world to know the name Butter Me Down By Kay!
