Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Yabsley.

Hi Kelly , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey with Messy Baby Co. started the same way many ideas do… with a real problem and no good solution. When I had my firstborn, diaper blowouts quickly became a constant battle, and nothing on the market seemed to help.

Out of equal parts frustration and determination, I started cutting up onesies, experimenting with absorbent pads and closures, and testing ideas at home. That’s when Baby Booty Blowout Gear was born. I wanted a product that made diaper changes faster, saved clothes from disaster, and didn’t require scrubbing or tossing outfits after every messy moment.

Just as important, I wanted something reusable, because babies are expensive enough without adding unnecessary waste or cost. What started as a personal solution turned into a product designed to make life easier for parents everywhere.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely experienced obstacles. The journey has been more of a rollercoaster than a smooth road, but in the best, growth-forcing way. It’s required far more patience than I ever thought I had in me, but once I started, there was no turning back.

One of the biggest challenges was producing the pad itself. Many manufacturers tried to steer me toward feminine hygiene products instead of truly understanding what I was creating, which made it difficult to translate my vision into reality. Once I solved that, the next hurdle was finding partners who genuinely had my best interests at heart, rather than just empty promises. Believe me, there have been plenty of learning moments and financial setbacks along the way.

Now, the biggest challenge is marketing: getting in front of the right buyers, opening doors with retailers, and helping people quickly understand the value of the product. It’s simple, it’s unique, and once people see it, it clicks, but getting that first look has been the real test.

Messy Baby Co. is a parent-founded baby brand focused on solving one of the most common, and frustrating, parenting problems: diaper blowouts. We specialize in reusable, easy-to-use solutions that protect clothing, simplify diaper changes, and help reduce waste.

Every iteration came from lived experience, trial and error, and listening to parents who needed this solution just as much as I did. I want readers to know that this isn’t just a baby product; it’s a practical tool designed to make everyday parenting a little easier and a lot less messy.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I obviously have to start by giving credit to the two little nuggets that led to my inspiration. Without their constant assplosions, this product probably wouldn’t exist!

But in all seriousness, my husband has been my rock and my biggest supporter. He’s believed in this business from day one, even when that meant letting me run wild with big ideas, holding down the fort while I traveled for tradeshows and TV competitions, and trusting me as I bet heavily on this dream. His support, patience, and belief in me have been everything.

I also owe tremendous credit to the sourcing team that helped bring this product to life. Finding the right partners was one of the hardest parts of this journey, and once I connected with Hope at Go Vertical, everything changed. She guided me through the patent, trademark, packaging, sourcing, and shipping… all the pieces that turn an idea into a real, scalable business.
