Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Wages. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Kim Pierre Wages Born in Jamaica Queens, NY; to father Kim Forbes and mother Tasha Wages.
As the streets were molding his Young reality, in the late 90’s his father was lost to the Prison system for 26yrs.
Immediately after, mother Tasha relocated the family to Gwinnett County Georgia in 99′.
While in Georgia, Kim adopted the responsibility of making sure upon release that his father wouldn’t have to work for or subject his remaining years to someone else’s dream.
Kims Fathers, repetitive statement “learn as many trades as you can, and you won’t have to work for anyone else” stuck out to him!
Needless to say, Kim went on a binge of educating himself on several trades. Including, but not limited to; aircraft mechanics, logistics coordinator, warehouse management, diesel repair, barbering, and a slew of other niche capabilities.
His goal at the time, circa 05′ was to make enough to bail out Pops.
Tunnel vision was met with a halt, as his father’s last appeal was lost. He then began to focus on a family of his own.
Propelling him into the field of Transportation and Logistics.
From managing Receiving department at ULINE to pursuing his dreams of entrepreneurship and building a legacy from skills, knowledge, and trade he’s developed over years, Kim obtained his CDL.
Equipped with CDL, he took his newfound talents to KLLM, where training as an Owner Operator began.
That learning, allowed him to understand his love for systems and numbers.
Starting company K&K Transport LLC and purchasing their first fleet truck, an 06′ Freightliner Century for 22k cash, the now journey that would be 15 years of owner-operated transportation, services and logistics began.
Leading to Kim becoming a stickler of information and company development.
Fast forward, at this point two companies in, including ASXG TRUCKING LLC founded by business partner Steve Jordan.
One in which K&K, runs contracted freight, and the other ASXG TRUCKING, partners with owner-operators and individual drivers under another authority.
Noticing voids in the Transportation industry of good safety and fundamental practices of truck operations and maintenance – Kim envisioned developing a service to assist new and existing owners and drivers on deepening their safety and operational awareness and management practices.
K&K expanded its business operations since its inception to include 9 trucks, a truck dispatching service, roadside assistance, and a new industry-leading On-Boarding service, which includes, not limited to:
– Inspection Protocol
– Log Comprehension
– Dispatch transparency
– Runtime Breakdown
– Road Testing
– Backing Clarity
– Vehicle functions
– Remote log monitoring w\ consults
– Bol submitting
– Safety parameters
– Calculating fuel
– Permits, Insurance usage
By directly playing a part and being Hands On, Kim has encountered and partnered with many great resources and looks forward to adding value to all whom he encounters.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Many of the challenges we met in setting up to assist others, were consistent in multitasking all companies and streamlining the organization.
Delegation became mandatory, opening up our growth potential.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about K&K Transport LLC?
I saw a safety void in the Transportation industry.
It became evident that the failure rate is in conjunction to how each company is formed through standards of operation and lack of compliance.
We coined the phrase Onboarding in 2018!
Through Onboarding, we created our unmatched training. Available to both new hire drivers and soon to be or existing fleet owners.
Creating a lane of our own!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Working on bicycles for all my neighborhood friends.
My house was a hub.
I valued working with my hands since 8yo.
Would trade bikes that worked, for broken ones, and bring them back to life for my friends that were without a bike to ride.
Pricing:
- Travel Onboarding 2k-6k
- Repairs 110 per hour
- Local Onboarding $395-1k
- Consult $90-250 per hour
