Inspiring Conversations with Kyle Santillian of The Morning Hustle Show

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Santillian.

Kyle Santillian

Hi Kyle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My radio journey begins with my alma mater, Winston-Salem State University, an HBCU in North Carolina. I was a Mass Communication Major with a concentration in Radio/TV. While at WSSU, I got an internship at WJMH-102 Jamz, and long story short, I turned that internship into a career! I went on to do everything there from promotions to the night show to the morning show. From 102 Jamz in Greensboro, NC, I went on to host Morning for 107.5 WGCI in Chicago. Now, you can catch me in my current role as host on The Morning Hustle every single morning!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re trying to achieve greatness. Of course, there were times where I was unsure what was to come. I was unemployed for a while between my time at 102 Jamz and WGCI. And in this business, we often see people lose a position and never find their way back to radio, so of course I was scared that that could be my fate as well, but fortunately, I landed on my feet. There are also times where you have to decide what you’re going to accept contractually. Those times can be stressful as well.

We’ve been impressed with The Morning Hustle Show, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Morning Hustle is a show that consists of myself and Lore’l!

We broadcast live in syndication every morning beginning at 6am. We really have a good time every morning with our listeners…or as we call them, our “Hustlers!” We touch on a wide range of topics and give everyone a chance to win $1000 every day! But it’s not just about fun. I believe we are well-rounded. It’s our goal every day to achieve these three things. We aim to entertain, inform, and educate the listeners.

Aside from our on-air antics, I also have my own business as well. Santilly Events LLC is something I operate outside of my on-air endeavors. I love hosting and promoting events, doing speaking engagements and generally being out among our listeners. Over the years, with Santilly Events, I’ve been able to provide quality outings for the young professional, speak to the youth and just be a part of the community in a way that extends outside the studio.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With the accessibility of the internet and social media, the industry is growing in the digital space. It’s actually kind of dope because I remember when there was a time when you only heard the radio personalities, but now… You get to hear and see them more than ever. We’re able to utilize technology, so you don’t miss a thing. You can listen on air, then catch the show podcast and watch the interviews!
