Today we’d like to introduce you to Lady Scribe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Let my family tell it, I have always been an investigative journalist growing up, lol. Always needing to know the why behind everything. So, I naturally gravitated toward a career in communications and broadcast journalism. Over the years, I gained the trust of many megastars, athletes and most importantly my community. I learned early that if you say it’s “off the record”, keep it off the record.
Transitioning into the internet/blogging stage of life, I didn’t see a space for me. Now, people can say anything. Do anything. No real research or fact-checking was required. There was already a Wendy Williams and I didn’t find pleasure in shaming or promoting negative media, so I started to listen to my friends in the industry, who said I’d be great at public relations.
Coming from Seattle, there weren’t many who looked like me in PR and I wanted to change that. By believing in the power of positive press and visibility for my clients, is how I got to be where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. A part of being a Black Woman in the media is understanding how we’re portrayed. Any disagreement can be looked upon as a response from an “Angry Black Woman”, regardless if it’s warranted, it can be a reflection on our clients. I had to learn early that there’s a word for everything. I can express myself in a way that doesn’t intimidate my colleagues while still demanding respect in my field.
We’ve all heard of code-switching. That can really take a toll on the soul. To not be able to be your true self will grind you down over time. That’s why starting my own firm, SRE Media Group, was a game changer for me. Not without obstacles and challenges of being a single mom and entrepreneur with massive dreams, having the independence to choose who I work with has brought peace and balance to my life.
We’ve been impressed with SRE Media Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At SRE Media Group, we are a full-service public relations firm. We specialize in brand/artist development, events and meetings management and travel. Like Nas said, “WE UNDERSTAND YOUR STORY”. Fame is not our end goal. We want our clients to have longevity in their respective fields and be able to reach their target audiences without all the hoopla that social media can bring. This is what sets us apart from others.
We are proud to serve small businesses and corporate companies. Both major and indie talent. Rookies and established athletes. Everyone must start from somewhere. Defining success is a personal journey and we’re here to support you with guided professional steps to meet your ultimate destination.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
