Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeicha Goodrum.
Hi Lakeicha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a native of Butts County, the oldest girl of five siblings, a wife and mother to six beautiful children. I started my business in 2018, working from a home office inside preparing taxes for my family and friends while working a full-time job. In October of 2019, I purchased a 10 X 12 storage unit and moved my inside office to an outside office with dreams of expanding my business. I took courses and put in the work of becoming an enrolled agent to license my own software to better brand my business, business started to pick up and everything was looking optimistic, then out of nowhere we were suddenly in a pandemic. In 2020, as businesses were closing their doors, I was more determined to find ways to keep dreams alive in the midst of uncertainty. I started to offer remote services, using various social media outlets to keep my business in front of the people and it worked. In September of 2020 I was blessed to move my business from my home to a commercial office location, where I was able to expand my business while still working through the unknowns brought on by the pandemic. In July of 2021, after a lot of prayer and faith in God, I decided to put my business name to work. I left a nine to five career and all that came with it to run my business full-time. In 2022, I was able to move my office from a single-room office space to a multiple-room office building, where I now offering various services which include individual and small business tax services, bookkeeping, payroll, printing and fax, notary and business startup assistance for rising entrepreneurs and nonprofits.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth by far but it’s been well worth the work and sometimes tears. Venturing out to start your own business comes with a wealth of unknowns, financial burdens and emotional stresses. From not knowing where to start nor where to go once you get there was and sometimes still is my biggest challenge. Resources are out there but not always easy to find so you have to be hungry to succeed, learning and being a sponge to information that you can take to level up your business. Understanding that taking losses is a part of business was another reality for me, sometimes the investment may be bigger than the return but those are challenges you have to learn from. Having a good support system to keep you emotionally sane was something that I needed. Being a wife, mother of six children and running a business can be emotionally overwhelming, so to have an outlet keeps me balanced.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our business is one stop shop for most business needs. We are a business that strives on customer service and satisfaction. We specialize in individual and small business tax preparations, a new business startup resource for rising entrepreneurs and owner operators in the trucking industry, bookkeeping and payroll, notary, printing and faxing service center. I am most proud of the reputation of my brand. We are not perfect but we strive to leave a good impression by the quality of service the brand is known for. I would like readers to know that my business was founded from my Faith, my business is more than a business to me, it’s an opportunity for me to serve in a capacity that I can help someone else to achieve their goals in life.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The best thing I like about our city is the opportunities it provides. With the right attitude and putting in the work you can have and be whatever your heart desire, that’s what I like most. If there is one thing that I’d say through experience that our city lacks is without networking, the availability of resources to small businesses, especially women and minority-owned businesses. There needs to be more exposure to where these businesses can tap into resources and funding to help their businesses grow.
