Inspiring Conversations with Marecia Murray of Murray’s Restaurant Consulting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marecia Murray.

Hi Marecia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself. 
So, my love for food and cooking and restaurants, and the whole industry began as a teenager. I needed a job, and I hated retail. I took a job as a front counter host at Fuddrucker’s in Alpharetta. It was crazy. I lived in Ben Hill, which is in SW Atlanta. I took 2 buses and a train every day to get to this job. It paid well and I learned every aspect and excelled at each part of the restaurant. From the bus girls to the dishwashers, to the cooks and expo guys, finally landing in management…as a 17-year-old kid. I loved it, and I was good at it. Over the years, I’ve managed a lot of other restaurants and concepts, learning restaurant systems and strategies, restaurant operations, sanitation, food safety, health codes, and cost of goods…, and perfecting them. All while being a student of the game…as a chef at Atlanta Technical College.

With 20-plus years under my belt and the desire to build my legacy, I decided to branch out on my own and consult with restaurant owners and companies that need a little help.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Let’s be honest, ok. The road is never smooth, ok? But I will say it hasn’t discouraged me. You know, basically, I’m the person that’s got to go to these owners and tell them they need my help, ok? For now, at least…until God blesses me to have every restaurant owner in the city calling my phone. LOL!!! So, I’m the one that’s got to walk into these places and say, hey, you’ve got a Health Score of 75. Why should anyone eat in here??? Ok… But then I’ve got to turn around and say hey, let me help you turn that 75 into a 100. And that entire dialogue that I just mentioned? Well…LOL!!! That could go a lot of different ways! LOL!!!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am Marecia Murray AKA Restaurant Fixer! LOL! I specialize in fixing broken restaurants and food service establishments. You know…bringing dead restaurants back to life. I get so many calls from friends and family when they dine somewhere. It’s hilarious. They’re like, “Ree, I ate at this place today and this was wrong or that was wrong, I think they need your help.” Because if you know me, you know that THIS is what I do! And it’s been a blessing.
I offer my services nationwide…not just in the city of Atlanta…with my most recent project being in Buffalo, NY.

So, with that being said:

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lessons I’ve learned are faith and perseverance. You know, belief in myself that I can STILL achieve my goals and my dreams, no matter what my circumstances look like… Believing and having faith in God to protect me and bless me and bless my brand with growth and long time success. And then persevering through any adversity or challenges I may be faced with. Hanging in there, no matter what it may look like or what I may feel like…NEVER QUITTING! Striving…steadily pressing towards the mark for the prize! By the grace of God, I’m well on my way!
