Today we’d like to introduce you to Masha Carter.
Hi Masha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a co-founder and President of Cosmic Design Studio. We are a design-build architectural firm that focuses on luxury swimming pools, outdoor living spaces, landscape and interior design. I am grateful to be working with people and make their dreams come true! This is the easiest way to present myself and summarize my experience to tell you where I am today.
The United States became my new home when I moved from Russia in 2015. It’s been a very interesting 7-year journey, and I can say that it’s getting better every year. I studied marketing and business in college and have always been described as a creative person. Some of my hobbies include design, dancing, acting, writing, and shooting videos. I am obsessed with the visual aesthetics of things whether it’s an interior of the house or a work presentation. Small details often catch my attention. You can easily find a lot of pictures on my phone when I was mesmerized by the reflection in the puddle after the rain.
Over the years, I tried different things: marketing, dancing, copywriting, acting, PR, voice-over. I had a chance to work for start-ups, national TV channels and international companies as well as working for myself. The experience that I gained from all these endeavors made me the person I am today. I enjoy trying different things, and I am not afraid to switch from one activity to another. The areas of entrepreneurship and design combined everything I like and allowed me to apply the skills I gained throughout the years.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship teaches me something new almost every day whether it’s hard skills or soft skills. It definitely requires a lot of responsibility and a lot of focus and makes you a jack of all trades. As an entrepreneur, you need to be ready for anything and everything. As a person who needs everything and needs it now, I am learning to be patient and focus on priorities.
This path is not easy, and sometimes I think that working for somebody else is a less difficult journey. But the good thing is that I am not doing it alone, my husband is right by my side and is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Running our own business is extremely rewarding – we have an opportunity to work with our talented team and create amazing projects. Seeing our clients happy makes it all worth it, and that’s what keeps us going.
I am an open-minded person and I am ready for anything this experience will bring. I am enjoying this chapter of my life and am grateful that I have the freedom to do it.
