Hi Monique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Monique Spears, the owner and founder of Emerged Beauty, PLLC, is a dedicated healthcare professional and entrepreneur whose journey reflects resilience, faith, and a passion for empowering others. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Monique grew up in a close-knit family with her mother, father, and older brother. Her early years instilled in her a strong work ethic, deep compassion for others, and a drive to create meaningful impact in her community.
At 18, Monique moved to Carbondale, Illinois, to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse at Southern Illinois University. During her final year of nursing school, she met her husband, Josh, now her partner of nine years. Together, they are raising three beautiful children: Destin (15), Jace (9), and Marli (5). Family remains at the heart of Monique’s life, grounding her as she balances motherhood, marriage, and her professional calling.
Monique earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015 and her Master of Science in Nursing in 2019 from SEMO. Today, she is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner working full time while also building her new venture, Emerged Beauty. With nearly a decade of healthcare experience, Monique’s passion for helping others feel their best grew into a vision for creating accessible, high-quality aesthetic care.
That vision shaped her mission for Emerged Beauty: to make self-care convenient without compromising quality. As a busy wife, mother, and professional, Monique understands firsthand how demanding life can be. She knows that while responsibilities grow, self-care shouldn’t suffer. That’s why she chose a mobile med spa model, bringing services directly to clients’ homes. Her goal is to ensure that beauty and wellness remain attainable, relaxing, and tailored to each person’s lifestyle.
Emerged Beauty merges Monique’s clinical expertise with her belief in personalized, compassionate care. Through her mobile services, she empowers clients to embrace confidence and prioritize themselves, because self-care should be accessible, effortless, and truly transformative.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles I faced were in nursing school being told the nursing program was too difficult or time consuming and maybe choosing another major would be better. Graduating nursing school, taking my boards and starting my nursing career pregnant. Going back for my masters with a toddler, working overnights at the hospital over the weekend and school and clinicals during the week. Also, with starting my business I created Emerged Beauty around the pandemic and used a company to help establish my PLLC in which they allowed my business to be involuntarily dissolved while I was paying them to be my registered agent. I realized how important business literacy is because other companies will try to capitalize off of lack of knowledge. So I then enrolled into a 10 week course at my local SBDC to gain more knowledge on how to run a business and I completed the course as well as won 1st place in the business pitch competition. Even with all the challenges and obstacles pursuing your goals and desires is far more rewarding.
