Inspiring Conversations with Nancy Muriel of JBC Homes, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Muriel

Hi Nancy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a proud Afro-Latina and bilingual professional, born and raised in Boston, MA. Born a twin with a “lucky fin”, a term of endearment for my physical handicap, has instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and determination.

Growing up, I encountered many obstacles, but I was always determined to face challenges head-on and carve my own path; High School being a good example. There was no avoiding typing class—yes, I’m showing my age! My teacher didn’t offer me an easy way out but instead gave me a hand up by providing a special typing book for right-hand typists. I’m so grateful for that support because it motivated me to succeed. Today, I type around 50 words per minute with one hand; a skill that surprises many and serves as a reminder of the power of persistence and encouragement.

Before I ventured into the world of real estate, my career took me to the stars, literally. I worked at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. There, I was blessed to work as the IT Support Specialist dedicated to support the Center Director, Bob Cabana, the Office of Inspector General, and our Legal office. It was there where I sharpened my problem-solving skills and fed my insatiable appetite for learning. After the Space Shuttle program came to end, I relocated from Florida to Atlanta, and I realized I wasn’t done trying something new. By day, I continue thriving in a System Administrator role; but evening and weekends, you can find me building my fortune through real estate, turning my passion for helping others into a new chapter of my career.

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, but stepping into the world of real estate has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. It all began unexpectedly at a homebuyer event, where I made a choice that would shape my future. I decided to work with Andrea Smith as my realtor. Little did I know that Andrea would not only guide me through my home purchase but also become my broker, mentor, and a constant source of inspiration on this incredible journey.

When I was ready to purchase my home, I reached out to her. My vision was modest—a new construction townhouse. However, after several unanswered requests to the builder’s agent, Andrea suggested I consider a single-family home nearby. Although hesitant, I agreed to look. As fate would have it, I never returned to that townhouse. Instead, I found myself captivated by a smart home in a subdivision, complete with all the bells and whistles. By the end of that day, I was under contract.

This was just before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the world, delaying my closing and even requiring the final paperwork to be signed in a tent at the attorney’s office parking lot. Despite some challenges, Andrea guided me every step of the way, ensuring the process was as seamless as possible. Her expertise and care made such an impression on me that I decided to follow in her footsteps. I wanted others to experience the confidence and empowerment I felt during my home-buying journey.

Andrea shared her plans to earn her broker’s license, so I promised her that I’d study for my real estate license and join her firm. True to my word, I started my coursework in January 2021, completing the 75-hour online program in May. However, I quickly realized I needed more preparation and dedicated a few more months to studying. That October, I earned my license and as promised, joined Andrea’s firm, AMS Prime Realty. It was then that I too established, JBC Homes, LLC.

Andrea took me under her wing, teaching me everything she knew. My first year was all about learning. I shadowed her, co-listed properties, hosted open houses, and absorbed every piece of advice she offered. By the end of 2023, I had successfully closed nearly a million dollars in personal sales, a milestone I have since surpassed.

I’ve found my niche in real estate, and 2024 has been my most successful year yet. This is only the beginning. My mission is simple: to help people achieve what they might not think is possible—homeownership. A couple clients have come to me with difficult past experiences, but I see these as opportunities to rebuild trust. I guide my clients through every step of the process, setting clear expectations, offering constant support, and ensuring they feel confident from start to finish. By the time we close, we’re often more than client and agent—we’re friends.

Each transaction teaches me something new, and every client benefits from the lessons of the last. I’m grateful for the guidance and mentorship I received from Andrea and the experiences that led me here. Without her support during my own home-buying journey, I may never have discovered my passion for real estate. Now, I’m proud to help others turn their dreams into reality, one home at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Real estate is anything but smooth; it’s full of unexpected twists and turns. When I first started, the learning curve was steep. I’ll never forget my first listing, where I made the rookie mistake of suggesting a sales price without fully evaluating the property. That experience taught me the importance of setting proper client expectations and doing my due diligence.

Working with buyers has also been a learning process. I remember spending months with one client showing over 30 properties, that’s when I learned to ask better questions upfront, and we finally found the right home: negotiating $41,000 below asking price. My client was thrilled, and I was relieved to close the deal.

Not every transaction is so complex, though. I’ve had some smooth deals that help balance out the more challenging ones. I love it when my buying clients receive credits, down payment assistance, builders’ incentives and/or get to walk away from the closing table with a check. While I strive for every transaction to end that way, each client, property, and situation is unique.

One particularly rewarding experience was selling a piece of land that had previously expired on the market. After resolving some issues, I relisted it and generated a flurry of interest resulting in a bidding war. The final offer came in at nearly $90,000 over asking, proof that the value of a property is truly what someone is willing to pay.

Real estate has taught me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Each transaction sharpens my skills, and I strive to deliver an even better experience for the next client.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
When I earned my real estate license, I channeled my entrepreneurial spirit into launching JBC Homes, LLC, with the vision of one day establishing my own brokerage. Although my license hangs with AMS Prime Realty, I operate as JBC Homes, growing my brand while honing my skills and gaining valuable experience. My ultimate goal is to lead JBC Homes as a full-fledged brokerage and to mentor others, inspiring them in their own real estate journeys.

I specialize in helping homebuyers take the exciting step to ‘‘Divorce the Rent & Marry the House’’, turning their dreams of homeownership into reality. I specialize in new construction, guiding clients through the process of building their perfect home. I’m skilled in securing incentives, whether it’s builder perks, down payment assistance, or other benefits—so my clients can maximize their investment and achieve their goals with greater ease and confidence.

What sets me apart from others is my dedication to providing a seamless, client-focused experience. I’m a bilingual communicator who ensures my clients feel informed and supported every step of the way. My attention to detail, integrity, and professionalism mean that nothing gets overlooked, and my clients can always trust I have their best interests at heart. I approach every transaction with a problem-solving mindset, going the extra mile to overcome challenges and deliver the best results. Most importantly, I bring empathy and patience to the table, understanding that buying or selling a home is a deeply personal journey. My goal is to make the process as smooth and rewarding as possible for every client I work with. But that’s not all, what I really love that sets the firm apart is how we celebrate our clients’ closings. We hire a videographer to capture drone footages, the final walkthrough and the celebration at the closing table. We then gift the captured moments to our client, and they absolutely love it.

I’m most proud of the decision I made to brand myself early on from something I started “Jus B’Cuz”. It’s a brand that genuinely embodies trust, exceptional service, and impactful results. The testimonies of my clients are a testament to just that. Seeing the direct, positive impact my work has on people’s lives is what fuels my passion and pride in this business.

I want readers to know that JBC Homes is dedicated to always putting their best interests first. Working with us promises to be a pleasant and unforgettable experience. Whether you’re buying your first home, selling a property, or exploring new construction, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. At JBC Homes, it’s more than just transactions; it’s about creating opportunities and making your real estate journey as seamless and successful as possible.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
In another business I’m still associated with, I learned the importance of personal development, and I’ve carried those lessons with me into my real estate career. One of my go-to resources is ‘drive-time university,’ where I listen to a range of motivational speakers. Les Brown is a favorite of mine for his inspiring messages. While I’m not much of a reader, I’m an avid podcast listener. Though they’re not always business-related, you’ll often find me tuning in to podcasts like RC Blakes, Dear Future Wifey, and Hardly Initiated for personal growth and motivation.
