Inspiring Conversations with Nicole Palmer of Nicole Williams Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Palmer.

Nicole Palmer

Hi Nicole, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.

My name is Nicole Palmer, and I am a mom, writer, strategist, and entrepreneur who excels at the intersection of business, personal development, and serving. I am originally from Jamaica, but I immigrated to the United States in search of a better life for myself and my family. However, due to my immigration status [or lack thereof], opportunities were limited at first. Nevertheless, the experience helped me develop my skills as an ambitious entrepreneur, particularly in sales and marketing, as I learned how to package and position myself.

Women no longer have to choose between family and career. As I watched women shattering glass ceilings that once limited our ability to dream, grow, and change the world, I realized that we still need to evolve and assess where we fit into this ever-changing landscape around us. This can cause imposter syndrome and a gap in confidence. Driven by a desire to help, I established a brand and marketing communications agency in 2015. A year later, I decided to go back to school to level up my knowledge by turning my Fashion Marketing associate degree into a bachelor’s in Communications, with a focus on Visual and Media Studies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Bringing my vision to life has certainly come at a cost. Despite my vision and passion, my journey has been anything but smooth – it’s been more like a roller coaster ride. The truth is, that entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It forces you to stand face-to-face with yourself. It’s an unpredictable journey, and it rarely goes according to plan.

I’ve encountered unexpected obstacles and challenges along the way that made me feel unprepared and overwhelmed. However, these obstacles and challenges were a necessary part of the journey. They helped me to grow, learn, and become more resilient. In fact, continuing to achieve my goals despite my challenges makes the results even more worth it.

I had to learn my self-worth, stop second-guessing myself, and stop people-pleasing. Like many of your readers, I’ve had to overcome countless challenges. But most importantly, I had to learn that seeking validation was just another way of procrastinating and that my excuses were only delaying my success. I had to get clear on my values and define what success meant to me.

So, to your readers, embrace the journey, and don’t be discouraged by the unexpected twists and turns that come your way.

We’ve been impressed with Nicole Williams Collective, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the owner of Nicole Williams Collective, my own brand and marketing communications agency, I lead a team that uses our expertise to develop strategies to help women and entrepreneurs clarify their message, package their expertise, and build their brands through coaching, branding, digital marketing, public relations, social media, direct marketing, and sales promotion. Every day looks different, but for the most part, my team and I spend each day developing messages, resolving problems, setting up systems and processes, designing brand assets, working on books, and positioning personal brands to show up in a way that sets them apart from others. Additionally, we help create PR and marketing strategies to spread the word. We also produce content via our podcast and blog to help women thrive at work, in business, and in life.

Any big plans?
As I continue to grow as a business owner, I realize that there is always something new to learn. With the constant emergence of new technology and trends, it’s crucial to have a lifelong learning mindset for both personal and business growth. I am always looking for ways to improve and better serve. Currently, my focus is on the long game—revamping our internal business processes and building my brand to evolve independently of me. As I work towards being a good steward of my God-given gifts, my goal is to drive leadership, progress, and make a positive impact. Additionally, I am learning to love and appreciate myself more than ever before.
