Inspiring Conversations with Omar Grant-Brown of 2Salute Ent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Grant-Brown.

Hi Omar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Every business needs marketing, promotions and proper structure to be successful. I always knew I wanted to help people and I’ve always had a passion for music. I started out working for an independent publication here where I would sell ad space to artists and help them get more exposure. In 2013, I would drive to Atlanta from South Carolina for a weekend to attend events and network, I went to the Duval Diamond Awards in Jacksonville, FL and began expanding my network in the industry. I knew then that if I wanted to pursue this full-time, I had to move. My wife and I moved here in 2015 and I worked 7 days a week doing distribution, sales and promotion for a magazine, club promotions and A&R work. I eventually started working at a professional recording studio where I observed how the music business worked within the studio from music executives, artists, and label owners. I then realized how many people in the industry did not know the basics of the music business and that’s when I knew I had to continue to learn so that I could be a vital tool to help collect royalties, promote themselves, and register their music with all the music societies. I want to continue to fulfill my purpose and guide others to do the same.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a rocky road filled with twists and turns, but I feel like I was built for this. I’ve always been resilient through hard times and welcome challenges. The beginning of my journey was not a direct path to where I am today. I would say just getting started is the biggest struggle, we always say we will start tomorrow or the next day and the reality is…tomorrow is not promised. There will always be people who doubt or question you, and you have to just focus on the people that encourage, uplift and celebrate you.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My purpose is to help artists understand the importance of ownership and learning the business. I specialize in marketing and promotions and helping artists register their music properly with all the music societies to ensure they collect all of their royalties off the table.

I am known for my work ethic and for helping artists build their fanbase organically. I started my brand and went to so many music workshops to gain knowledge from music professionals and continue to learn new things every day.

What sets me apart is that I know that I’m moving intentionaly so that I can make an impact and help artists treat their music like the business that it is. I want the readers to know that I am here to help those that are serious self-starters who are not scared to learn what they don’t understand yet about the industry, I would love to help you reach the next level in the industry and guide you through the forever-changing industry.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think everyone should take risks, we grow from being uncomfortable. Over time I have become more intentional with my risks and encourage people to do their due diligence. Moving to Atlanta was a leap of faith, I was starting from the bottom and pursuing my passion with hopes of turning it into a career. I live by the saying, “No risk, No reward”.
