Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael Mayoral-Parracia.
Hi Rafael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Spartan Public Adjusters started as a family conversation that turned into a business. Brothers Rafael and Michael Mayoral grew up around insurance — their father spent more than four decades handling claims — so they saw early on how confusing and stressful the process can be for homeowners when something goes wrong.
Before launching Spartan, Rafael worked as an adjuster for major national insurance companies. Seeing how claims are handled behind the scenes gave him a clear picture of where delays happen, how losses are evaluated, and how often homeowners leave money on the table simply because they don’t know how the system works. Eventually, the brothers decided to take that insider knowledge and put it to work for policyholders instead.
With their father’s mentorship and a background that spans adjusting, appraisals, and insurance defense work, they built Spartan Public Adjusters. Their focus, to advocate for Georgia property owners who felt abandoned or unfairly treated through the often complicated insurance claims process and pushing for fair outcomes. Today, Spartan is a family-owned company serving property owners across Georgia. Whether they’re getting involved at the onset of a claim or stepping in after a claim has been under paid or denied, Spartan is helping restore Georgia properties one claim at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. One of the biggest challenges early on was building trust in an industry where many property owners don’t even realize public adjusters exist. It’s isn’t until a property owner is already deep into a frustrating claim that they may hear about public adjusting from a friend or by stumbling across it during a web search.
What’s truly disheartening is that some property owners may go through the whole claim process without representation, fearing the only option to fight back is a long and costly court battle. This is where educating people on when we can help and how the process works becomes part of the greater battle.
Like most small, family-run businesses, growth also meant wearing a lot of hats at once — balancing active claims, client communication, marketing, compliance, and operations without the infrastructure larger firms have. There were plenty of moments that required patience, long hours, and learning things the hard way.
That said, those challenges helped shape how we operate today. They forced us to be intentional about communication, efficiency, and client experience, and ultimately made the business stronger and more focused. Every hurdle reinforced why we started Spartan in the first place: to show up for homeowners when the system isn’t working the way it should.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At its core, Spartan Public Adjusters exists to step in when the insurance process stalls. Most of our clients come to us after they’ve already filed a claim and realized they’re not getting clear answers, timely responses, or a fair assessment of their loss. That’s where we take over — handling the claim from that point forward, documenting damages thoroughly, communicating directly with the insurance company, and pushing the process toward resolution.
What sets us apart is perspective. Our background includes years spent inside insurance companies, along with experience in appraisals, claim management, and working alongside insurance defense attorneys. That gives us a practical, behind-the-scenes understanding of how claims are evaluated and where things tend to break down. We know what insurers look for, how they justify delays or underpayments, and how to respond effectively.
We’re also intentionally hands-on and relationship-driven. As a family-owned business, we don’t run claims through a volume-based system or hand clients off to layers of staff. We pride ourselves on being accessible, responsive, and transparent — making sure homeowners understand what’s happening with their claim at every stage.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients. Insurance claims often come during stressful moments — storms, water damage, fires — and we take that responsibility seriously. We want readers to know that Spartan isn’t about shortcuts or inflated promises; it’s about advocacy, clarity, and making sure homeowners aren’t left to navigate a complex system on their own.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has definitely played a role, but it’s hard to separate it from timing and preparation. Growing up in a family immersed in the insurance industry gave us early exposure and insight that many people don’t get — and that’s something we’re grateful for. Being able to learn from decades of experience before starting the business was, in many ways, good luck.
At the same time, building Spartan has involved plenty of moments that didn’t feel lucky at all — slow growth periods, unexpected challenges, and situations that forced us to adapt quickly. Those experiences made it clear that luck only really matters if you’re willing to put in the work when opportunities do appear.
Overall, we see luck less as something that happens to you and more as something you earn by being prepared, staying consistent, and showing up even when the road isn’t smooth. When preparation meets opportunity, things tend to move in the right direction.
