Inspiring Conversations with Reshana Reid of Valdeen Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reshana Reid.

Hi Reshana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved all things hair related. When I was younger, my mom would let me use her as a mannequin to practice the braid styles I had seen on TV or in magazines. In retrospect, I know my mother really loved me because she always told me she loved every style and even wore them to work. When I got to high school, I felt comfortable enough to begin braiding my own hair and wearing it to school. Fast forward to my senior prom and I got my first (and only) quick weave. The rest is history. I got to college and one of my friends at the time let me practice doing my first sew-in on her. It was terrible, but she wore it anyway. I knew from that day that I wanted to perfect my craft. I quickly enrolled myself into YouTube University and watched every tutorial I could find on sew-ins. My trusty mannequin was always there to let me practice. As time went on my sew-ins got better, and I wanted them to look better. The beauty supply store hair just wasn’t cutting it anymore. So I started trying some of the online stores that my favorite Youtube gurus used. From there, I learned that not all extensions are created equally. Some of the extensions that I tried would leave a trail of hair everywhere that I went, and some would tangle so bad that it felt like a nest on the back of my neck. Unfortunately, I didn’t know any better and continued to use them.

In my mid-20s, my worst nightmare came true. I began to find bald spots. Growing up, I witnessed various family members struggle with alopecia, but I never thought it would happen to me. As someone that loved hair as much as I did, I was devastated. I cried and tried all of the miracle products I could find, only to learn that nothing worked.
After realizing that it was not the end of the world and I still had plenty of hair to style as I liked, I continued my journey for the perfect extensions. I wanted extensions that blended so well with my natural hair that no one would even imagine what I was dealing with. I tested dozens of hair companies and finally found the perfect one. A “virgin” kinky straight texture that got me compliments everywhere I went. I referred all of my sew-in clients to them and they loved the hair too.

As time progressed, the quality began to decrease as their prices increased. It was then that I decided I wanted to start my own hair extension company. I searched for vendors everywhere between juggling my full-time job and going to school full time. Three years and two name changes later, Valdeen Hair was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The largest challenge we have faced was in the testing process. So much money, time and effort has been invested into finding the perfect vendors.

As you know, we’re big fans of Valdeen Hair . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We supply high-quality, raw hair extensions that have the potential to last a lifetime with proper care. We also provide excellent customer service to all existing and potential customers to help them find the product that is best for them. I am extremely proud of the evolution of my brand. What started as a vision has grown into a legacy that I can be proud of.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Patience. As much as I love instant gratification, I have learned that great things take time.
