Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Hollaway.
Hi Rhonda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Asia’s Closet LLC in 2020 at my home during the pandemic break like many other online businesses. Asia’s Closet was created as an inspiration from my daughter, Asia. I was an accountant prior to the pandemic before I started Asia’s Closet. So I spent most of my time behind a desk dealing with my clients all day. But Asia wanted my attention and it was hard to split between the two. So over the years, I started focusing more on Asia’s Closet. Asia has such a big personality and always loved being in front of the camera with a passion for fashion. Asia is a competitive gymnastic, dancer, model, actress and singer. With all her skills and her interest in the industry, we decided to pursue modeling as a career for Asia. Throughout our journey, we noticed the lack of direction and guidance for young entertainers. Asia’s Closet Angels is a nonprofit that was created to help young entertainers with guidance and resources to help them become successful paid entertainers through workshops and programs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been has always been smooth along our journey. The issues that black owners face is known to many of us with the lack of support being at the top of the list. When it comes to most small black businesses, their main customers are black people. So we depend on those sales and work hard to diversify to other audiences. I hope to get more of the community and businesses to work together and support each other. Asia’s Closet Angels is also a networking system for the youth in the industry. With the community working together, we can provide a better opportunity for our youth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Asia’s Closet is an online boutique for children. Initially, our inventory focused more on younger children’s clothing. But over the years, the brand has grown into more than a children’s boutique. Asia’s Closet has a book series, Asia’s Amazing Adventures, which can be found on all book-selling platforms. There is also our social media management website, asiasclosetangels.social, where we provide full-service and self-service social media management Asia’s Closet Angels is a nonprofit that offers membership opportunities to youth in the entertainment industry. The workshops provided through Asia’s Closet Angels provides guidance and resources to youth in the entertainment industry. Many of the youth and their parents are trying to get into the entertainment industry and become successful. But the lack of knowledge has many going in circles and spending more money than they are earning.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I do believe in knowing what you want, trusting in yourself and not giving up. We have to believe in ourself more than anyone else believes in us. Sometimes people don’t see your vision right away. Some people will never see it. But the vision isn’t theirs, it’s yours. It’s you that has to make that vision become reality so everyone can see what you see in your head. It’s so many outside influences that can make someone not to believe in themselves and their vision. But once again, you have to trust in yourself and your vision.
