Inspiring Conversations with Roane Loudermilk of Loudermilk Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roane Loudermilk.

Hi Roane, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My career has always lived at the intersection of people and homes. Before design, I was a
public school teacher and later a hospital-school teacher at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta,
where I worked with children undergoing cancer treatment. That experience shaped how I see the
world. It taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of creating environments that feel
safe, supportive, and thoughtful.

At the same time, homes were always part of my life. My father was a builder, very much a
“boots on the ground” kind of man, and I grew up watching spaces take shape from the ground
up. That early exposure stayed with me. When my husband and I founded Loudermilk Homes in
2009, and later Loudermilk Designs, it felt like a natural evolution: combining my heart for
people with my love for construction, craftsmanship, and design.

Loudermilk Designs emerged from a desire to approach interiors holistically. We design to
support the way people truly live. Every project is personal, and every decision is made with
longevity, function, and feeling in mind.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, and I don’t believe it’s supposed to be. Any meaningful
career comes with growing pains. Early on, one of the biggest challenges was learning how to
balance creativity with structure; how to protect the integrity of the design process while also
running a business.

There were seasons that required grit: learning when to say no, setting boundaries, and trusting
my instincts even when it felt uncomfortable. I also had to learn that leadership doesn’t mean
doing everything yourself; it means building a team you trust and empowering them to do great
work alongside you.

Those challenges shaped our philosophy at Loudermilk Designs. WE, my team of 5 rockstar
women, approach every project with care, humility, and a deep respect for our clients’
investment because we know and have seen how important it is to do things the right way, not
the fast way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Loudermilk Designs. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Loudermilk Designs is a full-service interior design and selection design studio specializing in
high-end residential projects, including new custom builds and remodels. We design homes
holistically, with a deep understanding of how spaces are built, lived in, and loved.

What sets us apart is our close integration with our sister companies: Loudermilk Homes, our
custom home-building firm, and The Loudermilk Group, our real estate arm operating within
Keller Williams Buckhead and Cashiers, NC. Together, we form a thoughtfully connected,
three-company brand that allows us to guide clients seamlessly from real estate and construction
through selections and interior design. This integrated approach brings clarity, efficiency, and
confidence to what can otherwise be an overwhelming process.

We are known for our selection design expertise, helping clients make foundational material, as
well as our interior design work. Every project is approached with care and intention, prioritizing
longevity, function, and feeling over trends.

I am most proud of the trust we build with our clients and the way our team works together.
Loudermilk Designs is led by a close-knit team of five women who value integrity, collaboration,
and thoughtful execution. We respect the investment our clients are making and believe deeply in
doing things the right way, not the fast way.

At its core, Loudermilk Designs exists to support the way people truly live; designing homes that
feel grounded, personal, and built to last.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say to those just starting in this field to lead with integrity, patience, and service. Your
style will evolve, your confidence will grow, and your business will find its footing. But, only if
you stay grounded in the reasons why you started.

Grow slowly and intentionally. The right projects (and the right clients) come when you focus on
doing excellent work and building genuine relationships.

Above all, don’t compromise your values just to move faster. Longevity is built through trust,
consistency, and caring deeply about the people you serve.
