Rocklyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always been into cars since a child and when I got my first few cars I washed them religiously lol. My neighbor Mrs. Jackie used to drive by saying “Dag boy you goin rub the paint off that car”. Fast forward to 2022 is when I first began mobile detailing. I first brought a pressure washer, 2 buckets, and a few other items that was it. I started off using customers water and power….wasn’t sure if it would’ve been a problem, but tried anyway. Then I created a site and came up with pricing/packages and started advertising it on Nextdoor. I actually got a booking the same day I listed it and things took off really quick. I went from having hardly anything to now having everything I need to get any job done and with constant work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No not at all. I became disabled in 2017 due to a condition I have and had to quit my job just after getting a promotion to be a lead supervisor, Not only was I not able to support my family, but I was suffering along the way and none of the specialists knew what was wrong with me. Me and my family then was forced to move in 2021 after the home was sold and had 60 days to leave. Luckily we found somewhere, but the rent was more. My wife got a second job to make ends meet, but it was wearing her out that it was affecting her going into her main job and I wasn’t feeling that. So I was trying to think of some kind of work that I can maybe handle with my condition so I came up with mobile detailing. I figured since I have a passion for it Id try. My plan was to maybe get a car here or there just to put food in the house or give my wife money to get back and forth to work, but it turned into more than I expected, into now having done over 600+ details and 160+ customers.
We’ve been impressed with Rocks Mobile Detailing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I been mobile detailing since June 2022. I have about 10yrs working in customer service prior in my field of work so im big on quality and good customer. I’ve been told by customers that I take pride in what I do and it shows. The Rock Wash is my signature service. It’s basically a inside&out detail that comes with alot included at a great price. You will see and feel the difference of your vehicle each time and also luv the smell with my air freshener that’s included. Another great benefit is every 7th detail is a free exterior wash, you can schedule on my site thats easy to use, and also convenient. With each post made I try to create a vibe with dope music to match either the vehicle im doing or mood that day. They can be seen on IG or Nextdoor.
What’s next?
Im not sure at the moment, but I may teach my sons the system how detail vehicles and my techniques to pass it down to them.
