Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosanne Dorfman
Hi Rosanne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Real estate has been my world for as long as I can remember. Helping people find a place to call home isn’t just a job; it’s my calling. Even as a child, I was fascinated by the idea of “playing house,” creating spaces that felt warm and inviting, and fixing things when they broke. Entrepreneurship was second nature to me because I grew up with parents who ran their own general contracting business for over 30 years. Being surrounded by construction, I picked up the lingo, learned how to use tools, and developed an eye for what makes a house not just structurally sound but a true home.
I started my real estate journey in 2012 when my family and I began buying properties. We renovated some to rent and managed them, while we flipped others to reinvest. I loved every step of the process, so in 2013, I got my real estate license and officially turned my passion into a career.
But the transition wasn’t easy. The real estate side came naturally, but building a business, prospecting, and putting myself out there was the real challenge. I’m naturally more reserved, and stepping out of my comfort zone to grow my client base was intimidating. Thankfully, I found a mentor who pushed me, and with time, strategy, and persistence, I built a business I’m truly proud of.
Over the years, my business has evolved beyond what I first envisioned. I have an incredible team of 4 agents and a dedicated marketing director who share the same passion for real estate and for serving others. Our motto, “humans helping humans,” is at the core of everything we do.
I take pride in going beyond the surface, whether that means climbing into an attic, squeezing into a crawl space, or inspecting the fine details of a home to ensure my clients have all the knowledge they need before buying or selling. Every agent on our team operates the same way. We believe in advocacy, transparency, and making sure our clients feel confident in every decision.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. After getting my license and starting to work with clients, I felt like I was operating in the dark. I had no idea how to turn real estate into a sustainable business or how to consistently find new clients. I didn’t enjoy making phone calls, and the thought of reaching out to friends and family out of the blue to ask if they knew anyone looking to buy, sell, or invest in real estate made me incredibly anxious. But I did it anyway, and to my surprise, it worked. I had the real estate knowledge—I just needed the confidence to put myself out there. Once I overcame that obstacle, everything changed.
Time management is another challenge I still navigate. It’s easy to let this job consume you since “time is of the essence” in every transaction, making everything feel urgent. Learning to set priorities, create boundaries, and carve out time for my family is something I continue to work on. It’s an ongoing process, but I’m always striving to improve.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Roots Real Estate is more than just a real estate team—we are a community of passionate professionals who believe in putting people first. Our motto, “humans helping humans,” is at the core of everything we do. We specialize in residential real estate, helping buyers, sellers, and investors navigate the market with confidence, but what truly sets us apart is our hands-on, full-service approach.
We aren’t just here to open doors and write contracts. We go deeper. We climb into attics, check crawl spaces, and analyze the details that others might overlook because we believe our clients deserve full transparency when making one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. Our team has extensive experience in home renovations, investment properties, and staging, giving us a unique perspective when advising clients on maximizing value.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the reputation we’ve built. We’re known for being down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and fiercely dedicated to our clients. We’ve created a culture where relationships come first, and that’s why so many of our clients become lifelong friends.
For sellers, we offer expert staging and marketing strategies to ensure homes stand out and sell for top dollar. For buyers, we focus on education and advocacy, making sure they feel empowered throughout the process. And for investors, we provide insights that go beyond the standard transaction, helping them make smart, long-term decisions.
At the end of the day, we believe real estate is about more than just properties—it’s about people, community, and creating a place to call home.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about our city is the sense of community. Whether it’s through local businesses, neighborhood events, or just the way people look out for one another, there’s a warmth and connectedness that makes it feel like home. I also love the rich history, the diversity, and the amazing food scene. There’s always something new to discover!
What I like least? Growth is exciting, but it also comes with challenges. Traffic and infrastructure struggles can be frustrating, and the cost of living continues to rise, making it harder for some families to put down roots. That’s why I’m so passionate about real estate. Helping people find their place in this city, no matter the market conditions, is what drives me every day!
