Inspiring Conversations with Sandra L Jean of The Jean Consulting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra L Jean.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an accountant who became a labor and employment attorney. After law school, I completed a 2-year clerkship and then became a Field Attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. In my last year, I transitioned to the compliance department where we attempted to resolve decade-long cases. From there, I went in-house as a Director of Labor and Employee Relations for the then largest provider of long-term care services in the United States. Through several employers, I operated in the long-term care sector eventually heading the People operations for long-term care companies. To better serve my clients, I became a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional focusing on risk mitigation and regulatory compliance, in addition to ensure a great people experience. Lastly, I also served as in-house counsel managing outside counsel.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an interesting journey. Some people knew from a young age what they want to accomplish. Others like me just stayed ready for opportunities as they present themselves and work through each segment. I’m always ready for a challenge. The struggle for me has been finding my footing in this new realm that I am experiencing as a budding entrepreneur…

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Through the firm, I act as a strategic Business and HR legal partner to business owners. We provide fractional General Counsel and Chief Human Resources Officer services to these businesses where we specialize in Contract Negotiations, Workforce Management Solutions, Workforce Disputes Management, Policy & Handbook Development, Employee Engagement Strategies, Regulatory Compliance Counsel.

My background as an accountant, a lawyer and as senior HR executive sets this firm apart. Our clients have the benefit of working with someone with great business acumen who understands their operations. We work with our clients using the AID/E approach. With AID/E we begin with an Assessment, and work with the client to Identify priorities. We then Design a plan that we present to the client to Execute. With that approach, our clients gain a keen understanding and appreciation for the projects we work on. It is important that where possible we educate our clients to empower them to make decisions that keep them out of legal trouble and allow them to keep their hard-earned money.

What makes you happy?
I am happy when my clients feel like they receive value for their retaining my firm. I feel happy when I get compensated fairly where I can take care of my needs and give back to my community. I have founded and currently serve on the board of several local organizations that are listed on the firm’s website.
