Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Sheppheard.
Sean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2013, I came down to Atlanta to pursue college and expand my horizons. I had never been to Atlanta before but I instantly fell in love with the city. There is a level of black excellence in Atlanta that does not exist anywhere else. I am grateful to have graduated from one of the greatest institutions in the world, Morehouse College, studying Finance and Economics. After entering corporate America, I gained experience in companies of all sizes, from Startups to Billion Dollar Corporations. Each level has taught me something valuable about business and how to grow as a young professional.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an entrepreneur, there is never a shortage of challenges. The key challenge I initially faced was the lack of resources, specifically money, time, and people. Despite what some people may say, it takes money to make money, especially when starting a small business. At the beginning, I did not have a lot of startup capital which meant I had to be even more strategic on how each dollar was spent. Learning about business credit while closely managing my budget was a major game changer and continues to help us manage cash flow. Working full-time also presented the challenge of time. There are only so many hours in a day. Putting in quality work after a 9-5 workday is not easy as I’m sure many entrepreneurs who also work jobs know all about. Time management is an art and a science. I have read many books and learned about different mental models that help optimize the time we do have.
Initially, I was a solopreneur, like many people at the beginning of starting a business. The problem I faced is that there were A LOT of things that needed to get done. I have always taken my business very seriously. Even at the beginning, I knew that I couldn’t do everything, but I honestly made the mistake of listening to my ego and ignoring my rational brain. Hiring a team is hands down the best business decision I have made this year. It is one of the reasons I’ve been able to grow and I make sure my team members know how valuable they are.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is playing monopoly with friends, I guess I’ve always been a capitalist at heart. There are three important lessons that Monopoly has taught me; 1. There are may ways to win the game. 2. Relationships are more important than money, and 3. Be competitive but always have fun! I try to remember these lessons in everything that I do.
