Hi Shelby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, I’ve always enjoyed planning, designing and organizing. Having my children just gave me the hands on training that birthed Sensational Designs. The looks of excitement and happiness when they would see their event was the seed.
I’m so grateful that I’ve been blessed with so many great opportunities too showcase and breath life into my unique layouts thru parties and the many luxury events that my clients have entrusted me with. I dare not leave out my true passion…Balloons. some of my most notable and extravagant designs have been my Balloon art.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t always say smooth. I’ve had some learning curves. It comes with the space. This was my first business, and I had to learn the ropes. There are some tricks to the trade that just takes some learning as you go. For example, weather, locations, logistics, and understanding budgeting. It’s taken some time, but I appreciate the challenges, it made me a smarter businesswoman.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Detail, detail, detail, having the quality of knowing how to pay attention to the smallest and the largest parts of your design and aesthetics for a client are major. Also, being honest with yourself about how organized you are is quintessential to your business. If you can’t deliver high quality to your clients, this probably isn’t the best business for you. It’s not just about money either, quality and details are about the time, love, and care we put into these events for our clients. To me, these are qualities one should seek when working in this industry, and not be afraid to hire out if you need assistance. My team is just a phone call away.
