Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherika Jernigan.
Hi Sherika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became an entrepreneur in October 2019, where I was operating in advertising and marketing. I moved to Montgomery, Al in February 2021. As I begin to expand my brand Sherika Nicole’s Media Outlet. I added entertainment where I begin hosting weddings, receptions, special occasions, book signings, birthday parties, events etc. My books started filling fast, and I became known as the “line dance queen”. People was booking “the vibe” near and far. In September 2021, I started a line dance class in Montgomery, Al at a small building by the name of Reign Events Space & Design. I named my class Groovy Line Dance Workout Class. My first class was 9 ppl and it was every 1st & 3rd Thursday.
As time progressed, I begin to fill the space which held roughly 45 ppl standing comfortably. Many suggested I move to a bigger space and add more days. But that’s not quite what I heard God say just yet. I stayed at that location and kept building my brand. I choreographed my own line dances as well as teach others. I begin to get booked for parties to teach line dancing. I’ve hosted sessions in my hometown Eufaula, Al, & Dothan, Al. My first 2 line dances that I choreographed went viral receiving 75,000+ views and 97,000+ views. January 2023 I made up my mind after praying to relocate my class. We had outgrown the current space we were in. February 2023, I begin hosting my class at the new location every Tuesday. Where now I’ve witness my class pack out 85+ ppl. I enjoy teaching all ages and giving people excitement and hope. Showing them they too can move their body the fun way. It’s not just line dancing, it’s indeed a workout when done correctly. I’ve met over 500 new people since I’ve been teaching my class. I thank each and every one for the continued support.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I stayed consistent no matter the attendance. I’m on an assignment and I know what God showed me. Teaching line dancing is not just a hobby for me. It’s not just something to do. It’s a gift I believe to have. A true deep passion to bring a great dancing vibe. Plus, the workout feel of it. Anybody can follow a recipe but it don’t mean the taste will be the same. My class vibe is unmatched.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I host and emcee all occasions. I’m known for bringing “the vibe” to events and special occasions. I’m also known for being the line dance queen with a different kind of vibe. I enjoy working the crowd. Whether young or older, the vibe will always match. I also have had the pleasure working with my church Hines Chapel Dothan & the Women Walking With Purpose. As well as Sororities in Montgomery, Al teaching line dance. Line dancing is for all to participate. God blessed me to connect to some wonderful people that support my brand genuinely and wholeheartedly.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself traveling to different states and countries hosting classes. I desire to expand my brand fully nationwide. I want to tap into different cultures and learn the different ways they dance as a form of expression.
