Inspiring Conversations with Sonya Lane of Change Entertainment Group (CEG)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Lane.

Sonya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Change Entertainment Group in 2015. While working with local entrepreneurs in the area, I realized that there was a large number of people that had an interest in the entertainment industry. After doing some research, I realized that a lot of them did not have access to the resources they needed to pursue a career as an independent artist. I also found out that there were not many artists managers in the area who could develop the local artists and help them take their talents to the next level.

So I decided to look into the independent artist industry and find the resources, information and industry professionals that could help me design an artist development process that would help the local artists get their music careers started. I started building a network of Managers, Promoters, Club Owners, DJ’s Music Producers, and Studio Engineers.

Once I had everything in place, I started giving the indie artists the knowledge and resources they needed to navigate the music industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were a lot of struggles in the beginning. Trying to build a new brand in the entertainment industry and work with new artists at the same time was not easy. I worked hard to build good business practices with industry professionals and new artists. I learned that a lot of information being given to the artist was often incorrect or not effective. I had to make sure that what I was telling my clients was beneficial and factual.

As time went on and people realized that I was serious about protecting new artists and making sure they had the proper knowledge to proceed with their careers, I was able to connect with some really amazing professionals who wanted the best for the artists as much as I did.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Change Entertainment Group focuses on the development of a new artist. Our focus is to provide different services to help our clients create and release great projects and build a solid fan base. We are known for our CEGTOP20 artist’s playlist. Each artist selected receives a custom-designed press release graphic that they can share on social media and entertainment websites. The playlist are created on Spotify and iTunes.

CEG has over 20 different services that our clients can choose from, we provide everything from website designs to album release parties. I also network with event Promoters to keep my clients updated on performance and collaboration opportunities.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am very passionate about the work I do because I believe that allowing a person to develop their skills into a career is the key to happiness. There is no greater feeling than being able to get up each day and do what you love and what comes natural to you. I enjoy spending my time meeting new creative people and helping them in any way that I can.
