Hi Sophia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a first gen Afro Haitian from South Florida, Go Canes! My path into the beauty industry was anything but traditional. I began my career in tech as a Front-End Developer/UX Designer and later moved to Atlanta to pursue opportunities in what was expected to become the next major tech hub. But everything shifted during COVID, and I realized my passion no longer aligned with that world. While figuring out my next move, I decided to enroll in nail school and unexpectedly fell in love with the art of transforming nails. That passion led me to train under a Russian Master Educator and ultimately to create Mazères Beauté, a European inspired salon redefining what upscale nail care looks and feels like in Atlanta

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Moving to another state alone is already a huge leap. Figuring everything out on my own while building a new life from the ground up was at times nerve wracking. I trusted a childhood friend to be part of that transition, thinking they’d be there for me as I made this big move, but that trust was betrayed. It was a painful lesson about protecting your peace and learning who truly supports you when the stakes are high. Beyond that, I faced the usual struggles of starting fresh in a new city which were finding stability, rebuilding community and staying grounded when things didn’t go as planned. But those challenges built resilience and gave me the courage to create the life and business I have today

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m a big believer in taking risks. I’d rather take the leap, give it my all, and know I tried than sit wondering what could’ve been. My Lord Jesus has never failed me, and I truly believe that whatever vision or desire God places in my heart is already confirmation from my future self that I’m meant to do it. God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle. I signed my first salon suite in a new city with zero clientele and no network, just faith and determination. I took the risk of moving to another state, trusting someone who did not have my best interest at heart, and even that turned out exactly as it was supposed to. Every major shift in my life has started with risk, whether it was leaving tech, starting over in beauty, or betting on myself, each one has brought me closer to my purpose
