Hi Star, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Star Washington…..wife, mom, sister and friend! Jeremiah 29:11 reigns true to my life story. I was once a struggling single mom and everyone thought I would be just another statistic. Married and divorced by 26, I didn’t have any real direction for my life. The opportunity to own and operate my own business fell in my lap.
I went from being a client at a weight loss clinic to owning the first African American Independently owned weight loss clinic in our city. We now have serviced over 2000 clients clinic-wide. SlimFit Weightloss Clinics is an all-natural weight loss clinic that not only gets the weight off but through our products and our process, you are taught how to create a healthier lifestyle in order to KEEP the weight off. We give back to our community by offering a save my life program. This program allows anyone 400 pounds or more FREE access to our products and services until they lose 100 pounds. All they have to do is commit to bettering themselves. With every blessing in life, you must reach back and help someone else along the way. This way is ours. During the process of entrepreneurship, I have fought and beat a rare form of cancer twice. This last fight, cancer broke my arm, a rod was put in it and I was given as little as three years to live.
Multiple rounds of radiation, physical therapy and numerous doctor visits later I am proud to say I am cancer free and thriving. The journey of entrepreneurship has its test and trials and isn’t easy; however, if you stay the course it’s definitely worth it. Life will attempt to get in the way at times if you let it but your faith must remain strong. Today, I am not only cancer free but my business just celebrated year 5. I am a 3x Amazon best-selling author and we generate six figures annually. What they thought was just an ordinary story turned out to be extraordinary. In June, I celebrate 13 years of marriage as well. Your story is never over until YOU give up. I was determined to have more for my life and the life of my children. Through my faith and determination…I am no longer a statistic but hopefully, an inspiration to others to NEVER give up on YOU!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In 2019, I was diagnosed with cancer, After about three months of radiation I was supposed to be ok. Then in 2022, cancer broke my arm. A tumor at away at the bones in my arm and it broke while I was waving to my daughter on the school bus. From there I had to undergo surgery and have a rod placed in my arm. I was told I had about 20 years to live, then that dwindled to ten and even that dwindled to about three. Through multiple rounds of radiation, physical therapy, learning to use my arm again and numerous doctor visits… I can proudly say I am cancer free. All of this while I ran two businesses daily.
