Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Hohla.
Hi Susan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born in Ireland and raised in a close-knit family with my parents, brother, and three sisters, I grew up grounded in the values of hard work, connection, and community.
As a teenager, I came to the United States through a summer camp counselor program, a decision that would quietly shape the rest of my life. I worked in the ceramics room, while just down the hill was the water ski dock. Teaching kids to water ski during his summer break from Ohio University was the man who would later become my husband.
From that summer forward, my life in the U.S. continued to unfold in ways I never could have planned. Thirty-six years later, we are still married and raising four children together. What began as a summer opportunity became a lifelong journey one rooted in family, resilience, and the willingness to say yes to new chapters.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most meaningful journeys, my path hasn’t been smooth and it certainly hasn’t been linear.
Building a life in a new country came with its own set of challenges: finding my footing, balancing family responsibilities, and adapting to constant change. There were long seasons of juggling raising four children, supporting a household, and stepping into leadership roles before I always felt ready.
Not having my own family nearby was especially hard. Missing milestones. Knowing my children wouldn’t experience the Irish side of their family the cousins, the shared history. We leaned heavily on my husband’s parents, who lovingly stepped in and doted on their grandchildren in ways I’ll always be grateful for.
Professionally, I learned early on that being hardworking and deeply committed doesn’t always guarantee fair treatment. Later, when I started a business from scratch with a strong business partner, I discovered that running a business isn’t just about skill it’s about people, systems, communication, and resilience. There were moments of self-doubt, growing pains, and lessons learned the hard way. But each challenge sharpened my instincts, strengthened my leadership, and clarified what truly matters.
Those experiences shape how I work today: with empathy, accountability, and a steady hand. I understand the vulnerability of inviting work into your home because I’ve lived it from every angle as a homeowner, a parent, and a business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our business Revive Painting Company, was built on a simple but often overlooked idea: how the work is done matters just as much as the final result.
We specialize in high-quality residential painting, with a strong focus on interior transformations including walls, trim, and professionally painted cabinets. Homeowners know us for our attention to detail, clear communication, and the care we take both inside and outside their homes. From thorough prep and clean job sites to respectful crews and reliable timelines, we aim to make what can feel like a stressful process feel organized and manageable.
What truly sets us apart is our emphasis on systems and people. We don’t cut corners, rush crews, or treat homes like job sites we treat them like someone’s personal space. Every project is managed with clear expectations, ongoing communication, and accountability from start to finish. Clients always know who to contact, what’s happening next, and when the job will be complete.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the trust we’ve built. A large portion of our work comes from repeat clients and referrals, which tells us we’re doing something right. We’re known for showing up, doing what we say we’ll do, and standing behind our work.
At our core, we’re a service business grounded in integrity, empathy, and professionalism. We understand the vulnerability of inviting work into your home, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal isn’t just to deliver beautiful results it’s to leave homeowners feeling confident, respected, and glad they chose us.
Any big plans?
My husband Brian, is a teacher and has that wonderful schedule, and our four children are now creating lives of their own. Our youngest is in her second year of college, which has brought a new rhythm to our home and a lot of reflection for me personally. After years of constant juggling, this season feels quieter, more intentional, and full of possibility.
With that shift, I’m looking forward to focusing more deeply on the work I love continuing to grow the business thoughtfully while also creating space for balance, travel, and being present for this next chapter of family life. My business partner Jorge, also has four children, so we share a deep understanding of what truly matters. Together, we’re excited to keep building something steady and meaningful, without the urgency that defined earlier years.
Professionally, the goal remains the same: to lead with care, invest in our team, and deliver work we’re proud to stand behind. Personally, I’m embracing this season of transition one that allows for both growth and breathing room.
It feels less about chasing what’s next and more about building what lasts. We want Revive Painting Company to serve the community for many years to come.
