Inspiring Conversations with Tanisha Johnson and Idanna Vaught of WildSoul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Johnson and Idanna Vaught.

Hi Tanisha and Idanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you so much for having us! We are truly honored! Our story began in 2012, in a fashion core class at SCAD in Savannah, GA. Over the course of two years, many classes together, late sewing and designing sessions, we just became really close. So close that we always teased the idea of working together after we graduated. We shared so many things in common from student life, motherhood, style and taste to where it made sense for us to collab. Fast forward to years of always keeping in touch and keeping up with the lives we were living, we finally decided to put our ideas to fruition. We chose a name for our brand, worked hard on a logo, obtained our business license, researched, and built our company from the ground up, literally. In 2019 on Black Friday, WildSoul was born and we launched our online boutique.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been the smoothest road and of course, this journey has come with obstacles. Especially with us launching only a few months before COVID-19 hit and quarantine. Together we are still learning the ins and outs of this business. We have had conversations about what is best for the business and our monthly goals. Fashion in itself is a saturated industry and we do our due diligence in trying to stand out and be different while still accommodating our everyday shopper and customer. The greatest thing about our friendship, partnership and workmanship is that we have such similar mindsets that we are never too far off in what feel like our areas of opportunity are, things we can improve on even more, and acknowledging aspects of the business that we strive in. There’s so many moments where one person will have an idea, plan or opinion that the other person didn’t think of. And this works for us because we are so open-minded and team-oriented, it’s always easy for us to see the other person’s view or perspective.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Well you should definitely know that when we built our company, we wanted to create an environment where women exude the feeling of being free and comfortable. We wanted to create something that enforces the notion that we are all unique and that’s what makes us beautiful. I think what sets us apart is that we make it our goal to offer flattering styles for all body shapes and sizes.

Our Mantra is:

WildSoul motivates women to freely embrace their bodies. Regardless of shape or size, we are all DIVINE creations. At WildSoul, we take pride in emboldening women and encouraging them to fall in love with the way they look.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love Atlanta so much! We enjoy going to the fashion events, pop ups and conventions. Great food and hangout spots in the city is a major plus for us. SCAD also has a really nice campus in Atlanta so it always feels like a 2nd home. Not to mention, Atlanta is the breeding ground for innovation, hustle, fashion, greatness and success! If we had to say a dislike, its got to be the traffic! Crazy, right!
