Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Walker.
Hi Tanisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, I’m Tanisha Pope-Walker. Owner and founder of Tax Maxx LLC & That Credit Chic LLC. I’m a native of Atlanta. My grandfather was one of the first black police officers in Atlanta and several of my family members including my mom were police for the city. I grew up in Atlanta before moving to Decatur when I was entering the 5th grade. At a young age, I was always trying to help people and serve my community. My older sister and I would go to nursing homes and volunteer our time with the seniors by talking, reading, cleaning for them and just spending time with them weekly. I knew I had a calling over my life to serve when I would get so much gratification from helping people. I continued to serve my community at my church in the “Needs Ministry” at World Changers Church International. My mother, sister and I would go door to door and see what needs people had and tried to put them on the right track.
From there, I went on to work for an attorney in Atlanta, where I was able to apply these skills to help people facing financial hardships. I assisted them with figuring out the best route for them to take to get their finances in order. This led me to open a tax office in 2011. I was able to and hire a staff of eight women. I trained them and showed them a new skills while also showing them how to assist clients while teaching them state and federal laws. In the office season of 2014, I decided to start assisting people with their credit as I had fixed my own. It was BAD… I always tell people I couldn’t buy a hot dog on credit. I had always struggled with my credit in my 20s because my parents didn’t know much about credit so it was impossible for them to teach me. I began to study federal and state laws so that I could help clients all over and not just in my state. I have assisted over 500 clients since opening on 2014. My goal is to ensure that I spread awareness of financial literacy, credit and homeownership across the US.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Helping people has always been a smooth road for me but when my mother passed away in 2020, I became very depressed. I thought I could manage things on my own but it wasn’t until I started therapy that I got a true breakthrough of overcoming such a dark time in my life.
We’ve been impressed with Tax Maxx LLC & That Credit Chic LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is That Credit Chic LLC.
I assist clients with restoring their credit and their credit confidence. I consult with them to determine the problematic areas of their finances and credit. I develop strategies to help them with their credit as well as a plan for their future.
What sets me apart from others is that I used to own a collection agency and I’m well versed in the FDCPA. I know firsthand what laws protect the consumer and their credit and we use those things for our client’s benefit.
My service is personable. I meet with all of my clients and try to be as hand on as I can.
What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is setting a goal and accomplishing it. Success takes hard work, time, patience and lots of dedication
